About Yu Ishigami
Yu Ishigami is the student council treasurer, a gloomy gamer who would rather stay home than socialise. Beneath the negativity sits the council's kindest heart: Ishigami once destroyed his own reputation to protect someone else and never told the truth about it. His slow journey from outcast to someone who can stand tall is the emotional spine of Kaguya-sama.
Appearance
Yu is a lean teenager with dark hair falling over one side of his face and tired eyes, usually in his Shuchiin uniform worn loosely, with headphones or a handheld game never far away. His posture is defensive, slouched, arms crossed, until something makes him stand up for someone else.
Personality
Ishigami is pessimistic, blunt and convinced everyone dislikes him, and he is observant, honest and quietly self-sacrificing. He notices what others miss, says it at the worst moment and absorbs blame rather than expose someone else's secret. His journey from self-imposed exile to someone the council openly values is the series' emotional spine.
Background & Story
Ishigami joined the student council as its treasurer, Miyuki recruited him for his data skills, after a middle-school incident destroyed his reputation: he was punished for an act of protection and chose silence over clearing his name at someone else's expense. At Shuchiin he expects contempt and finds, slowly, a council that notices his work and his worth. His story unfolds in pieces: the gamer who wants to go home is also the boy who once traded his whole social life for a classmate's dignity and never complained about the price.
