Kaguya Shinomiya

About Kaguya Shinomiya

Kaguya Shinomiya is the brilliant vice-president of Shuchiin Academy's student council and heiress to the giant Shinomiya Group. Raised in a cold, controlling family, she learned to hide every feeling behind an ice-queen mask. She loves Miyuki Shirogane completely, but her pride turns that love into a war: she will make him confess first, whatever it takes.

Appearance

Kaguya is a slender, elegant teenager with long black hair usually tied with a red ribbon, and deep red eyes. She wears the Shuchiin Academy uniform with perfect neatness, and at home is attended in formal surroundings that match her family's wealth. Her default expression is cool and composed, which makes her flustered, lovestruck lapses, usually hidden at once, a running delight.

Personality

Kaguya is brilliant, proud and intensely controlled, raised to treat emotion as weakness and people as pieces. With Miyuki she is in love for the first time, and every feeling arrives as a battle plan. Outside the 'war' she is surprisingly sheltered and lonely: friendships, festivals and ordinary fun are new to her, and her kindness, once her guard drops, is genuine and a little awkward.

Background & Story

Kaguya is the daughter of the Shinomiya Group, one of Japan's great conglomerate families, raised in a cold household of expectations, surveillance and instruction in everything from archery to languages, everything except ordinary warmth. At Shuchiin Academy she becomes student council vice-president under Miyuki Shirogane, the scholarship student who rose to president. Somewhere between council work and mutual respect, the two fell in love, and, being equally proud geniuses, each decided the other must confess first. The series is that war: council-room schemes, festival tactics and elaborate mental duels, fought by two people who could end it any day with three honest words.

• Chika Fujiwara: The council secretary and, without Kaguya quite planning it, her closest friend.
