Ai Hayasaka

About Ai Hayasaka

Ai Hayasaka is Kaguya's maid, attendant and partner in crime, raised by the Shinomiya family to serve and spy for them. At school she plays a bubbly fashion-loving girl; in private she is exhausted, sarcastic and desperate for a normal life. Hayasaka helps run Kaguya's romantic schemes while quietly asking what loyalty has cost her, and what freedom would mean.

Appearance

Hayasaka is a teenager with blonde hair usually in a side ponytail with a blue scrunchie, and blue eyes. At school she wears the Shuchiin uniform in a fashionable gyaru style; at the Shinomiya house she works in a maid uniform; on errands she uses disguises, including a male butler persona, without missing a beat.

Personality

Hayasaka is professional to the core: capable, discreet and able to become whoever the job needs. Her private self is dry, tired and funny, counting the cost of a life spent serving and reporting on the girl she also genuinely cares for. Her loyalty to Kaguya and her duty to the Shinomiya family are not the same thing, and the gap between them defines her story.

Background & Story

Hayasaka's family has served the Shinomiyas for generations, and Ai was raised inside the main house as Kaguya's attendant, part maid, part bodyguard, part spy for the family's head. She builds Kaguya's schemes, runs her errands and reports her days, while at school she maintains a cover as a carefree classmate. It is a life with no room in it for Ai herself, and as Kaguya's war brings her mistress closer to ordinary happiness, Hayasaka begins to ask what she is owed, and what freedom would even look like.

Key Relationships

• Kaguya Shinomiya: Her mistress, charge and closest person, served, protected and occasionally deceived for her own good.
• Miyuki Shirogane: The boy whose romance with Kaguya Hayasaka stage-manages, tests and increasingly supports.
