Power
From Chainsaw Man
Power is a main character in Chainsaw Man, the Blood Fiend, a devil inhabiting a human body, who works in Public Safety's Special Division 4 as Denji's partner. She shapes her own blood into weapons and lies as easily as she breathes. She is voiced by Fairouz Ai in Japanese and Sarah Wiedenheft in English.
About Power
Power is the Blood Fiend, a devil living in a stolen human body, who joins Public Safety as Denji's partner. Loud, selfish, dishonest and obsessed with her cat Meowy, she fights by shaping her own blood into weapons. Underneath the bragging is a lonely creature learning, for the first time, what it means to have friends.
Appearance
Power is a young woman with long, messy strawberry-blonde hair falling past her waist and sharp yellow eyes with cross-shaped pupils, the mark of a fiend. Two small red horns grow from the top of her head, bigger when she has drunk too much blood. She wears the Public Safety uniform sloppily, tie undone and shirt half-untucked, and moves like a cat that owns the building: sprawling, pouncing and stealing food off other people's plates. Her fangs show when she grins, which is often, usually because she has just claimed credit for something, or eaten something that was not hers.
Personality
Power is gloriously awful: selfish, greedy, cowardly, a compulsive liar and a braggart who calls herself the greatest devil hunter alive and flees from anything actually dangerous. She is also, slowly and against her will, becoming someone capable of love. Her cat Meowy was her first attachment; Denji and Aki become the second. Power's growth never makes her nice, she will always choose the last slice of cake and deny everything, but when it counts she shows up, terrified and complaining, for the only family she has ever had. The comedy of Power is that she is a devil learning humanity badly; the heart of Power is that she is learning it at all.
Background & Story
Power is the Blood Devil, who took over a human corpse and became a fiend, a devil weakened by inhabiting a body, but able to live among humans. Wild and half-feral when Public Safety caught her, she was spared execution and assigned to Makima's Special Division 4, where devils and fiends work as hunters under threat of death. Paired with Denji and moved into Aki's apartment, the fiend who cared only for her cat Meowy began, meal by stolen meal, to live something like a family life. Her early story, rescuing Meowy from the Bat Devil with Denji's help, is the first crack in her selfishness, and the series keeps widening it.
Powers & Abilities
- Blood Manipulation: As the Blood Fiend, Power shapes her own blood into weapons, hammers, spears, knives and rain-like barrages of blades.
- Blood control in others: She can manipulate blood she touches, slowing bleeding to save a life or disrupting an enemy's blood flow.
- Fiend regeneration: Drinking blood restores Power's strength and heals her wounds, though too much blood makes her horns grow and her temper worse.
Key Relationships
- Denji: Her partner and housemate, a relationship of pure sibling chaos that quietly becomes the most important bond in her life.
- Aki Hayakawa: Her other housemate, whose food she steals and whose rules she ignores, and who becomes family despite everyone's better judgement.
- Makima: The boss Power fears more than any devil, one look from Makima ends any of Power's rebellions.
