About Himeno

Himeno is Aki's partner, a veteran devil hunter with an eyepatch, a cigarette and a contract with the Ghost Devil. Easy-going and flirtatious, she has buried too many partners and tries to keep the rookies alive with jokes and hard advice. Her bond with Aki, part teasing, part devotion, is one of Division 4's warmest threads.

Appearance

Himeno is a woman in her mid-twenties with short black hair, a black eyepatch over her right eye and a relaxed, slightly mischievous smile. She wears the Public Safety suit with the ease of someone who has stopped caring about the dress code, usually with a cigarette in hand. Her missing eye is part of her contract's price, the Ghost Devil took it in exchange for the use of its invisible arm, and she wears the loss lightly, the way she wears everything heavy. Himeno's whole presentation, the teasing grin and the lazy posture, is armour built by a survivor: look casual, feel less.

Personality

Himeno is warm, flirtatious and funny, the division's big sister, who takes rookies drinking, teaches them the job's real rules and flirts with Aki openly. Underneath is a woman defined by loss: she has attended the funerals of partner after partner, and her philosophy is carved from it, die privately, cry privately, and do not expect this job to love you back. Her devotion to Aki is total and deliberately light about itself, because making it heavy would mean admitting how much she fears his funeral being next. Himeno's kindness is the real thing, survived through grief; that is why the rookies trust it, and why her story hurts the way it does.

Background & Story

Himeno had already lost five partners to devils before Aki Hayakawa was assigned to her, graves she visits, habits (including smoking, which she passed to him) that she collected from the dead. She made a contract with the Ghost Devil, trading her right eye for its invisible, intangible arm in battle, and built a reputation as a capable, unshakeable senior hunter. With Aki she found the partner she most wants to keep alive: much of her teasing is a campaign to convince him to quit Public Safety and live an ordinary life with her instead. When Makima's rookies arrive, Himeno becomes their mentor too, the veteran who tells Denji the truth about this job while making sure he survives it.
