Twenty-Fifth Bam
From Tower of God
Twenty-Fifth Bam is the main character of Tower of God, a boy who lived alone beneath the Tower until Rachel left to climb it, then forced the door open and followed her as an Irregular. He is voiced by Taichi Ichikawa in Japanese and Johnny Yong Bosch in English.
About Twenty-Fifth Bam
Bam is the hero of Tower of God, a boy who lived alone in a cave beneath the Tower until Rachel, his only friend, left to climb it. He forces the door open and follows as an Irregular, someone the Tower never chose, with a strange power to copy techniques and defy its rules. His climb is driven by loyalty the Tower keeps testing.
Appearance
Bam is a slim boy with messy chestnut-brown hair, golden eyes and a gentle, slightly lost expression, dressed at first in the plain clothes he wore beneath the Tower. He looks younger and softer than the climbers around him, no family crest, no famous weapon, nothing to mark him as dangerous. Years later he reappears transformed in presentation: long hair tied back, dark clothes and a colder, guarded bearing befitting FUG's slayer candidate Viole. The eyes give him away in both versions. Bam looks at people as if each one might be the whole world, because for most of his life, one person was.
Personality
Bam is kind, earnest and almost incapable of treating anyone as disposable: in the Tower, that makes him a revolutionary. His loyalty to Rachel is the engine of his climb, but it broadens quickly: the friends he gathers become people he will face Rankers, princesses and the Tower's hidden powers to protect. He is naive about the Tower's politics and stubborn about its cruelties, refusing bargains every other climber accepts as normal. His strangeness is his power's shape, too: Bam learns by receiving, copies what is used against him and treats every enemy's strength as something to understand rather than fear.
Background & Story
Twenty-Fifth Bam spent his whole life alone in a dark cave beneath the Tower, until Rachel found him, the girl who taught him to speak, to read and to hope, and who told him about the stars at the Tower's top. When Rachel was chosen to climb, Bam forced the Tower's door open by himself and followed her in: an Irregular, someone the Tower never invited, in a world where that word means both miracle and threat. The guardian Headon set him a deadly first test, and Princess Yuri's gift of the Black March carried him through it. On the floors above, Bam gathers the team that defines him (Khun, Rak and a dozen rivals turned friends) while administrators, princesses and hidden powers all begin, for their own reasons, to watch the boy who opened the door. He has no family name, no training and no understanding of the Tower's cruelties; what he has is a gift for shinsu that breaks its rules and a loyalty that keeps rearranging the plans of everyone who tries to use him.
Powers & Abilities
- Shinsu Control: Bam manipulates shinsu, the Tower's all-purpose energy, with an Irregular's freedom, forming blasts and barriers without the contracts that limit ordinary climbers.
- Technique Copying: Bam can reproduce techniques after experiencing or witnessing them, absorbing other fighters' skills into his own style at unnatural speed.
- Reverse-Flow Control: A rare shinsu technique that can stop an opponent's body and shinsu flow on contact, control flowing backwards through the enemy's own energy.
- Black March: The legendary needle Yuri lent him for his first test: one of the 13 Month Series, a weapon of immense power that responds to Bam despite its famous pickiness about wielders.
Key Relationships
- Rachel: His first friend and whole world, the girl who taught him everything and left for the stars; his climb begins as a chase after her.
- Khun Aguero Agnis: His strategist and closest friend in the Tower, who chose Bam as his treasure and protects him with schemes Bam never sees.
- Rak Wraithraiser: The giant spear bearer who joined to hunt him and stayed to fight beside him, the loud heart of Bam's first team.
- Yuri Jahad: The High Ranker princess who lent him the Black March on a whim and keeps betting on him, her interest alone makes empires nervous.
- Ha Jinsung: The FUG elder who later trains the slayer candidate Viole, teaching him martial arts and treating him like a grandson.
