Tartah is a young witch apprentice who works at a magic shop in the city of Kalhn and becomes one of Coco's first friends outside the atelier. He has silverwash, a condition that lets him see only shades of grey, and dreams of magic that could help others see the world as he does, or help him see it as they do.

Tartah is a young boy with a thoughtful, gentle expression, usually seen in the practical clothes of a shop assistant among shelves of inks, pens and magical goods. His world is shades of grey because of his silverwash, a fact he carries matter-of-factly, it is simply how he has always seen.

Personality

Tartah is kind, earnest and quietly determined. Working in his grandfather Nolnoa's magic shop has made him knowledgeable beyond his years, and he dreams in a direction most witches never think of: magic shaped around how he sees the world, and that could help others see it too. He befriends Coco as an equal, two young people the witch world considers defective, comparing notes.

His silverwash, a condition that limits his sight to shades of grey, makes standard colour-based magical work difficult for him, and the witch world's tests were not built for someone like him. Meeting Coco, another outsider told she did not belong, gives him a friend who understands; together they start asking what magic could look like if it were designed for people like them.
