From Witch Hat Atelier
Olruggio is a supporting character in Witch Hat Atelier, Qifrey's childhood friend, a gruff witch who specialises in magical items and fire, light and heat, and serves as the atelier's Watchful Eye. His warmth hides under complaints, and his loyalty runs deep. He is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura in Japanese and Reagan Murdock in English.
About Olruggio
Olruggio is Qifrey's childhood friend, a gruff witch who specialises in crafting magical items and keeps the atelier's fire lit, literally. He acts as the atelier's watchful older brother, suspicious of Coco's arrival and the danger following her. His warmth hides under complaints, and his loyalty to Qifrey runs deeper than either of them admits.
Appearance
Olruggio is a young man with dark hair, a short beard and a permanently tired expression, complete with shadows under his eyes. He dresses more roughly than Qifrey, in practical witch's robes suited to a workshop, and is most often seen near a fire, tending it, cooking over it, or glaring at whoever interrupted him beside it.
Personality
Olruggio complains constantly and cares just as constantly. He is suspicious of Coco's arrival and the danger trailing her, says so bluntly, and then quietly makes sure everyone is fed, warm and safe. As the atelier's Watchful Eye he takes his duty to report rule-breaking seriously, which puts his conscience on a collision course with his loyalty to Qifrey.
Background & Story
Olruggio grew up with Qifrey and comes from Ghodrey, the City of Magic in the north, where he was regarded as a talented witch. He settled at Qifrey's atelier as its Watchful Eye, the adult appointed to supervise the atelier and report to the Knights Moralis, while building a reputation crafting magical items and tools. Coco's arrival tests that double role from the first day: the girl is exactly the kind of breach he is meant to report, and exactly the kind of child he cannot bring himself to abandon.
Powers & Abilities
- Fire, light and heat magic: Olruggio specialises in magic that creates fire, light and heat, the atelier's hearth and lamps are his everyday handiwork.
- Magical item crafting: He designs and makes magical tools and items, the practical craft side of drawn seal magic.
Key Relationships

- Coco: The outsider apprentice he was wary of on sight, and who he ends up looking out for like the rest.
- Agott Arklaum: One of the apprentices in his charge, whose standards he respects even when he teases the whole group.
