Alaira

About Alaira

Alaira is an elegant senior witch and old friend of Qifrey, known for her skill with healing magic. Where the witch society answers Coco's accident with law and punishment, Alaira offers something rarer: sympathy. Her presence shows Coco, and readers, that not every witch believes the rules matter more than the people they crush.

Appearance

Alaira is an adult witch with a graceful, composed bearing and a kind, knowing expression. She wears the full robes and pointed hat of an established witch of the Great Hall, and carries herself with the calm confidence of someone trusted with other people's injuries, and secrets.

Personality

Alaira is warm, perceptive and quietly principled. She follows the witch world's rules without worshipping them, and judges Coco as a child first and a case second. Her sympathy is not softness: it is the confidence of an experienced witch who knows exactly which rules protect people and which merely protect the system.

Background & Story

Alaira is a senior witch of the Great Hall and a longtime friend of Qifrey and Olruggio, known for her healing magic. When Coco's accident brings the machinery of witch law down on a frightened child, Alaira is one of the few established voices willing to treat her with compassion. Through her, Coco, and the reader, learn that the witch world is not of one mind about its own harshest laws.
