Story & Plot

In Taisho-era Japan, kind-hearted Tanjiro Kamado sells charcoal to support his family. Returning home one day, he finds them slaughtered by demons, all except his younger sister Nezuko, who has been turned into a demon herself but still shows human emotion. Instead of killing her, Tanjiro sets out to find a cure.

He trains under the swordsman Urokodaki, passes the Final Selection and joins the Demon Slayer Corps, hunting demons with his Water Breathing techniques while protecting the sister he carries on his back. His search for answers leads to Muzan Kibutsuji, the first and most powerful demon, and the one responsible for his family's fate.

As Tanjiro climbs the ranks, the demons he faces grow more tragic as well as more terrifying. Many were once ordinary people twisted by Muzan's blood and their own despair. The closer he gets to the Twelve Kizuki, Muzan's strongest demons, the clearer the line becomes between the monsters who chose cruelty and the ones who never had a choice. And all the while, Nezuko sleeps, fights and slowly changes into something no demon has ever been before.
