Ukyo Kuonji

About Ukyo Kuonji

Ukyo Kuonji is Ranma's childhood friend and a master of martial-arts okonomiyaki, fighting with a giant spatula and a bandolier of throwing blades. Ten years ago Genma Saotome promised her hand to Ranma, then ran off with her father's food cart. Raised as a boy to focus on her craft, Ukyo arrived seeking revenge and stayed as another determined fiancée in Ranma's chaotic life.

Appearance

Ukyo is a teenager with long brown hair, usually dressed as a boy in an okonomiyaki chef's outfit with her giant spatula strapped to her back and a bandolier of small throwing spatulas across her chest.

Personality

Ukyo is cheerful, hardworking and practical, a business owner as much as a fighter. Raised as a boy to master her craft, she is more straightforward than the other fiancées, and her old friendship with Ranma gives her pursuit of him a warmth the others lack.

Background & Story

Ten years before the story, young Ranma trained daily at the Kuonji okonomiyaki cart, duelling little Ukyo on the griddle. Genma promised Ukyo's father that Ranma would marry her, then stole the cart and ran. Ukyo renounced being a girl to focus on revenge and her art, tracked Ranma to Furinkan, and discovered her anger had nowhere to go: Ranma had never known about the promise. She opens her own okonomiyaki shop near the dojo and joins Nerima's romantic battlefield as 'Ucchan', Ranma's oldest friend.
