Soun Tendo

About Soun Tendo

Soun Tendo is the master of the Tendo dojo and father of Kasumi, Nabiki and Akane. A sentimental man who weeps at the slightest provocation, he is determined that the engagement between Ranma and one of his daughters will secure the dojo's future. When angered, his battle aura can be genuinely terrifying, a reminder that he trained under Happosai alongside Genma and survived it.

Appearance

Soun is a tall man with long dark hair and a moustache, usually in a brown gi or kimono at home. His face is built for melodrama, tears, shock and joy all arrive at full size.

Personality

Soun is emotional, hospitable and hopeless under pressure, weeping at engagements, arguments and weather alike. He loves his daughters fiercely and wants the dojo provided for, and when truly angered he can summon a battle aura that reminds everyone he trained under Happosai.

Background & Story

Soun inherited the Tendo dojo and trained under Happosai alongside Genma Saotome, surviving their master together. Widowed young, he raised three daughters while the dojo took few students. The Saotomes' arrival fulfils his oldest hope: an engagement between the families to unite the schools. He hosts Ranma and Genma indefinitely, plays shogi, cries at every development and occasionally, when Akane is threatened, shows the fighter he used to be.

Key Relationships

• Akane Tendo: His youngest daughter, the dojo's real martial artist and the chosen fiancée.
• Kasumi Tendo: His eldest daughter, who runs the household.
• Nabiki Tendo: His middle daughter, whose business sense the family budget survives by.
• Genma Saotome: His best friend and fellow Happosai survivor.
