Ryoga Hibiki

About Ryoga Hibiki

Ryoga Hibiki is Ranma's eternal rival, a powerhouse martial artist with one fatal flaw: he has no sense of direction at all, and can get lost for weeks travelling across town. A Jusenkyo curse turns him into a tiny black pig whenever he is splashed with cold water, a secret Akane must never learn, since she adores 'P-chan' as a pet. His love for Akane fuels every duel.

Appearance

Ryoga is a rugged, athletic teenager with dark hair held by a spotted bandana, usually dressed in a yellow travelling outfit with a heavy backpack and umbrella. As P-chan he is a tiny black piglet with the same bandana, small enough for Akane to carry.

Personality

Ryoga is earnest, intense and hopelessly dramatic about honour, revenge and love. He is also kind and easily embarrassed, his crush on Akane turns him to mush, and his complete inability to navigate makes every arrival a surprise, including to him.

Background & Story

Ryoga was Ranma's rival from their previous school, where a grudge over a bread feud grew into a chase across China. Following Ranma to Jusenkyo, Ryoga was knocked into the Spring of Drowned Pig by Ranma's female form, though he blames Ranma entirely. In Nerima he becomes both Ranma's most persistent challenger and, as P-chan, Akane's beloved pet, a secret that would end him if she ever learned it.

Powers & Abilities

• Superhuman strength: Ryoga is one of the strongest fighters in the series, able to shatter stone and swing his heavy umbrella like a sword.
• Jusenkyo curse form (P-chan): Cold water turns Ryoga into a small black pig; hot water restores him.

Key Relationships

• Ranma Saotome: His eternal rival, blamed for his curse, his lost school days and his troubles with Akane.
• Akane Tendo: The girl he loves from afar; as P-chan he is her pet, a double life that tortures him.
