Akane Tendo is the youngest daughter of the Tendo dojo and, by her father's arrangement, Ranma's fiancée, an arrangement she resents loudly and often. A skilled martial artist in her own right, she is strong-willed, quick to anger and quicker to defend her friends. Her cooking is famously dangerous, her temper legendary, and her growing feelings for Ranma are obvious to everyone except, officially, her.

Appearance

Akane is an athletic 16-year-old with dark blue-black hair, worn long at first, later cut into a short bob, and brown eyes. She is usually seen in her Furinkan High uniform, casual clothes at home, or a yellow gi when training at the dojo. Her build is sturdy and strong from years of practice, a point of pride in fights and a sore point when Ranma teases her about it.

Personality

Akane is strong-willed, quick to anger and quicker to defend anyone being bullied. She is proud of her martial arts, touchy about being treated as weak or unfeminine, and famously terrible at cooking, sewing and swimming, subjects on which she accepts no criticism. Underneath the temper she is warm, loyal and fair: most of Furinkan's boys admired her long before Ranma arrived, and her growing feelings for him are obvious to everyone except, officially, Akane herself.

Background & Story

Akane is the youngest of Soun Tendo's three daughters and the one who actually trains at the family dojo, practising the Tendo style of Anything-Goes martial arts every morning. When the Saotomes arrive, her father presents the engagement as the dojo's future: Akane, as its real heir in spirit, is matched with Ranma. She wants no part of an arranged fiancé, least of all one who is a better fighter, turns into a girl and insults her within hours of meeting. Living under the same roof, the two settle into a rhythm of duels, rescues and arguments, with Akane holding her own in a household where challenges arrive daily and her own skill keeps growing.
