Appearance

Rangiku is a tall woman of 172 cm with long, wavy strawberry-blond hair, blue eyes and a beauty mark below her lip. She wears her shihakusho loosely and low-cut with a pink scarf-like cloth at her shoulders and a lieutenant's badge she is rarely seen actually working under. Her Zanpakuto, Haineko, hangs at her hip; in release it has no blade at all, just a hilt, while the blade itself drifts as a cloud of ash around her.

Personality

Rangiku's relationship with paperwork is best described as a rumour. She drinks, she teases, she vanishes when reports are due, and her tiny captain does her job with the air of a man who gave up years ago. Don't let the act fool you, because it is partly an act. Rangiku reads people the way Toshiro reads battle reports. She's the one who shows up with exactly the blunt, kind thing a friend in crisis needs to hear. And there's history under the glamour: a childhood starving in the Rukongai, a piece of her soul stolen by Aizen's people, and Gin Ichimaru, the boy who once shared his food with her and then walked a road she could never follow him down.

Background & Story

Rangiku nearly starved as a child in the Rukongai, where a young Gin Ichimaru found her collapsed and shared his dried persimmons, the beginning of the most important relationship of her life. Unseen by her, Aizen's followers had already taken a piece of her soul for their experiments. She entered the academy, rose to lieutenant of Squad 10, and built a life of work, friendship and sake around the hollow Gin left when he walked into Aizen's service. In every war she fights on the front line, against Arrancar in Karakura, against the Wandenreich in the Seireitei, and when Gin finally falls, she is the one who finds him.

Powers & Abilities

• Haineko: Her Zanpakuto's blade dissolves into fine ash, which she guides with the hilt, every grain cuts like the blade itself, shredding whatever the cloud settles on.
• Neko Rinbu: She spins Haineko's ash into a whirling cyclone around herself, a storm of blades that defends and attacks at once.
• Kido and swordsmanship: As a lieutenant Rangiku is a capable all-round fighter, trusted with independent command in Karakura Town's defence.
