Urahara Kisuke
From Bleach
Urahara Kisuke is a supporting character in Bleach, the smiling candy-shop owner of Karakura Town who is secretly a former Squad 12 captain, founder of the Soul Society's research institute and the man who trained Ichigo. He is voiced by Shin-ichiro Miki in Japanese and Doug Erholtz in English.
About Urahara Kisuke
Kisuke Urahara is the striped-hat shopkeeper of the Urahara Shop, a smiling candy seller who is secretly a former Squad 12 captain and founder of the Soul Society's research institute. Brilliant, sly and always three plans ahead, he trained Ichigo and supplies the Soul Reapers with inventions nobody else could build. When war comes, Urahara's cheerful act drops and his true genius goes to work.
Appearance
Urahara is a tall, lanky man of 183 cm with messy pale-blond hair, grey eyes usually shadowed by his signature green-and-white striped bucket hat. He wears a dark green coat-like jacket over loose clothes and wooden geta sandals, and carries a cane that hides his Zanpakuto. Everything about him says harmless shopkeeper on holiday, which is exactly the impression he cultivates, down to the folding fan he flutters when a conversation gets serious.
Personality
Nobody has ever got a straight answer out of Kisuke Urahara on the first try. He plays the fool beautifully. The hat, the fan, the sing-song voice, the candy shop that happens to supply half the spirit world. Underneath the act is a man running plans ten moves deep, a genius inventor whose experiments once went so wrong he's spent a hundred years quietly cleaning up the damage. That guilt is real too. When a situation turns genuinely bad, the grin drops and what's left is cold, fast and frighteningly good at his job. The captains who knew him back then never stopped watching him carefully. There's a reason.
Background & Story
Kisuke Urahara grew up in the Soul Society alongside Yoruichi Shihoin and rose to captain of Squad 12, founding the Shinigami Research and Development Institute. A hundred years before the story, his experiments were turned against him: Aizen framed him for a crime he did not commit, and Urahara fled to the living world with the captains Aizen had experimented on. He settled in Karakura Town as a candy seller whose shop quietly supplies Soul Reapers. It was Urahara who trained Ichigo to reclaim his powers, Urahara who sent the rescue team into the Soul Society, and Urahara whose inventions keep appearing whenever the war needs an answer nobody else could build.

- Bankai: Kannonbiraki Benihime Aratame: A Bankai that summons a giant female figure and lets him restructure anything within range, including bodies, by stitching it back together differently.
- Inventions and Kido: A master of Kido up to the highest levels and the inventor of tools the Soul Society still uses, from portable Gigai to the Hogyoku itself.
Key Relationships
- Yoruichi Shihoin: His oldest friend and partner in exile, the two tease each other like siblings and trust each other absolutely.
- Ichigo Kurosaki: The student he trained, tested and quietly armed for wars Ichigo did not yet understand.
