Neferpitou
From Hunter x Hunter
Neferpitou, called Pitou, is a supporting character in Hunter x Hunter, one of the Chimera Ant King's three Royal Guards, a catlike being of terrifying power and absolute loyalty to Meruem. Pitou is voiced by Ayumi Fujimura in Japanese and Sarah Anne Williams in English.
About Neferpitou
Neferpitou, often called Pitou, is one of the Chimera Ant king's three Royal Guards. Playful and catlike one moment, terrifying the next, Pitou is fiercely loyal to Meruem and curious about strong opponents. Pitou's Nen senses enemies from far away and can heal wounds or control bodies like puppets. Few characters in the whole story inspire as much fear with a smile as Pitou always does.
Appearance
Pitou has a youthful, androgynous appearance with messy white hair, large red eyes, cat ears atop the head and a long cat-like tail, combined with insect features, jointed limbs and sharp claws. Pitou wears a blue buttoned coat, orange scarf and shorts, an oddly casual outfit on one of the most dangerous creatures alive. The smile is the unsettling part: bright and playful even in moments of cruelty, like a cat that has found something small and alive to play with.
Personality
Pitou is playful, curious and utterly ruthless, a predator who treats violence as a game and enemies as toys, while serving the King with total, joyful devotion. Pitou's loyalty is the deepest of the Royal Guards: not worship of an idea, like Pouf's, but personal love for Meruem as an individual, which grows to include protecting the human Komugi because the King values her. That growth is Pitou's tragedy, the Guard learns care, apology and sacrifice in the middle of a war where those lessons come at the highest price.
Background & Story
Pitou is the first of the Royal Guards to be born from the Chimera Ant Queen, created for one purpose: to protect the King. Pitou's Nen awakens almost immediately, and an early test, killing the Hunter Kite, who came investigating the Ants, displays power beyond anything the Hunters expected. Stationed in East Gorteau after the King seizes it, Pitou guards the palace with an En that covers kilometres, heals the King, and develops medical Nen to repair even the dead for the King's purposes. When the Hunters' extermination team storms the palace, Pitou faces Gon, a boy whose grief over Kite has been aimed at Pitou for months.
Powers & Abilities
- Enormous En and Aura: Pitou's En stretches for kilometres in irregular shapes, and Pitou's aura is so vast and malevolent that elite Hunters freeze on sensing it.
- Doctor Blythe: Pitou's conjured Nen surgeon can perform operations beyond human medicine, healing grievous wounds and repairing bodies, though it roots Pitou in place while working.
- Terpsichora: A Nen puppeteer that takes control of Pitou's own body to maximise combat power, pushing speed and strength past natural limits.
- Corpse Puppets: Pitou can manipulate dead bodies with Nen, using them as soldiers, decoys and tools for controlling territory.
Key Relationships
- Meruem: The King Pitou exists to serve, whose safety outweighs everything, even Pitou's own instincts and life.
- Shaiapouf: A fellow Royal Guard whose scheming devotion Pitou follows but does not fully share; their priorities quietly diverge.
- Gon Freecss: The boy whose mentor Pitou killed, and whose hatred turns Pitou into the focus of Gon's transformation.
- Kite: The Hunter Pitou killed and used as a puppet, the act that defines Pitou in Gon's eyes.
