Kite

About Kite

Kite is a pro Hunter who studied under Ging Freecss, and the man who first told Gon the truth about his father. Calm and experienced, he works protecting wildlife and investigating dangerous species, which leads him to the Chimera Ants. His Nen conjures a slot machine weapon he cannot choose himself, forcing him to adapt to anything. Gon looks up to him as a link to Ging.

Appearance

Kite is a tall, very lean man with long white hair worn under a dark blue cap, pale skin and sharp, tired eyes. He dresses practically in dark clothes suited to fieldwork, and carries himself with the quiet alertness of a wildlife researcher who spends his life in dangerous habitats. His Nen weapon, a scythe or firearm conjured by a manic clown's roulette, appears only in combat. Everything about Kite is understated, he looks like a scholar and fights like a veteran.

Personality

Kite is calm, blunt and professional, a man of few words who does not waste warmth but gives respect where it is earned. He is honest with children in a way few adults are: he tells Gon hard truths plainly and treats him as capable. As a researcher he is principled about life, he kills only when necessary and studies animals, even monstrous ones, with a scientist's detachment. His steadiness makes him the natural leader of the Chimera Ant survey, and Gon's admiration for him becomes a measure of what a Hunter should be.

Background & Story

Kite was a homeless boy in a city slum when Ging Freecss found him, recognised his gift for understanding animals, and trained him as a Hunter, Kite calls finding Ging for his final test the hardest work of his life. As a pro Hunter with a biological survey team, Kite specialises in discovering and protecting new species. Years before the story, visiting Whale Island, he saved young Gon from a foxbear and told him his father was alive, the meeting that started Gon's journey. When a giant Chimera Ant queen's remains wash up, Kite's team investigates the outbreak in NGL, with Gon and Killua joining him, a mission that brings him face to face with a Royal Guard's birth.

Powers & Abilities

• Crazy Slots: Kite's Nen conjures a talking clown that rolls a roulette from 1 to 9 and produces a weapon he cannot choose, from a silent scythe to a mace, forcing total adaptability.
• Silent Waltz: One of Crazy Slots' weapons, a huge scythe whose spinning slash covers a wide area and cuts down everything within its radius.
• Wildlife Expertise: Kite reads animal behaviour, habitats and biology at an elite level, the skill that makes him the Hunter Association's man for new-species crises.

Key Relationships

• Gon Freecss: The boy Kite saved and inspired, whose admiration Kite quietly lives up to; Gon sees him as the link to Ging and the model of a Hunter.
• Ging Freecss: His master, who found Kite starving in a slum and made him a Hunter; Kite respects him above anyone.
• Killua Zoldyck: Gon's friend, whom Kite judges coolly and instructs as an equal professional during the Chimera Ant mission.
