Killua Zoldyck

About Killua Zoldyck

Killua comes from the famous Zoldyck family of assassins, but he leaves that life behind to travel with his best friend Gon. He is fast, clever, and very skilled in a fight, yet he is also a fun-loving kid who loves chocolate. His friendship with Gon is one of the best parts of Hunter x Hunter.

Appearance

Killua has spiky silver-white hair, sharp blue eyes and a pale, cat-like face that shifts easily between bored, mischievous and cold. He is small and lean at 158 cm, usually dressed in loose, comfortable clothes, baggy shorts, long sleeves and his ever-present skateboard in the early story. His hands hide a secret: he can reshape his fingers into razor claws. When his assassin training takes over, his whole expression empties, a change his friends learn to recognise instantly.

Personality

Killua is clever, playful and far more worldly than Gon, a boy raised on torture and assassination who nonetheless loves chocolate robots, games and teasing his friends. He thinks several moves ahead, assesses every fight coldly and is usually the one to say when a battle cannot be won. Beneath the cool surface he struggles with what his family made him: terrified of his elder brother, convinced he will eventually betray or abandon Gon, and desperate to find a purpose that is his own. His loyalty, once he chooses it freely, is absolute.

Background & Story

Killua is the third son of the Zoldyck family, legendary assassins living on Kukuroo Mountain, and was groomed from birth as the heir with the most potential. His childhood included poison, electric shock and torture presented as training, and work as an assassin before he was ten. At eleven, bored and rebellious, he injured his mother and brother, walked out and entered the Hunter Exam for amusement, where he met Gon, the first person his own age to treat him simply as a friend. Killua's journey becomes a fight for his own will: against his family's control, the needle his brother planted in his head to keep him obedient, and his own belief that a killer cannot stand beside someone like Gon.

Powers & Abilities

• Assassin Training: Killua was trained from infancy in assassination: stealth, torture resistance, poison immunity and superhuman strength, including pushing open testing gates weighing many tons.
• Rhythm Echo: An assassination technique in which Killua's footsteps create afterimages of himself, confusing enemies about which body is real.
• Claw Hands: Killua can adjust his hand muscles and bones to turn his fingers into claws sharper than knives.
• Transmutation Nen, Electricity: Killua's Nen turns his aura into electricity, a result of the shocks used in his childhood training, powering techniques of extreme speed.
• Godspeed: Killua wraps his body in electricity to move and react at phenomenal speed, letting his body respond to attacks automatically before conscious thought.

Key Relationships

• Gon Freecss: His best friend and the first person to treat him as a boy rather than a weapon; the centre of Killua's new life.
• Illumi Zoldyck: His eldest brother, whose control over Killua, including a Nen needle planted to force obedience, is the chain Killua must break.
• Biscuit Krueger: The teacher who rebuilds Killua's Nen fundamentals and treats him as a student rather than an assassin.
• Ging Freecss: Gon's father, indirectly: Killua measures his own worth partly against the journey Gon takes to find him.
