Manjiro Sano

About Manjiro Sano

Manjiro Sano, known to everyone as Mikey, founded the Tokyo Manji Gang as a boy and led it with impossible strength and charisma. Behind the smile is what he calls his dark impulse, a coldness that grows every time he loses someone. Twelve years on he leads the Kanto Manji Gang in the Three Titans war, and in one future he sits atop Bonten, Japan's largest criminal organisation. Saving Mikey from himself is Takemichi's final mission.

Appearance

Mikey is short for a gang leader at 162 cm, lean rather than bulky, with dark eyes and blond hair worn loose to his shoulders in his Toman days. He usually looks half-bored, slouched on his motorbike, snacking, or draped over Draken, which makes his moments of violence land harder: the lazy boy moves faster than anyone in the story. In the Three Titans era he wears the white uniform of the Kanto Manji Gang, his hair cut shorter and his expression emptier.

Personality

Mikey is charismatic, childish and terrifying in rotation. He loves jokes, food and his friends with total openness, and he built Toman as a gang that would protect the weak the way his older brother taught him. But loss breaks something in him each time: what he calls his dark impulse is a cold, violent emptiness that grows as the people who anchor him disappear. His friends matter to Mikey in a way that goes past affection. They hold him up. Take them away and the whole structure of him starts to crack.

Background & Story

Manjiro Sano grew up in his grandfather's dojo alongside his older brother Shinichiro, the legendary founder of the Black Dragon gang, whom Mikey idolised. With Draken, Baji, Mitsuya, Pah-chin and Kazutora he founded the Tokyo Manji Gang as a boy, aiming to build a new era for delinquents, strength in service of loyalty, not cruelty. Toman's rise makes Mikey 'the Invincible Mikey', unbeaten in a fight. But the story's futures all bend around him: whenever the people closest to him are lost, Mikey falls into darkness and ends up leading criminal organisations like Bonten. In the Three Titans era he leads the Kanto Manji Gang, and bringing him back is the one mission Takemichi has left.

Powers & Abilities

• Martial Arts Mastery (skill): Trained in his grandfather's dojo from childhood, Mikey is the strongest fighter of his generation, his speed, balance and technique let him defeat far larger opponents with ease.
• Nuclear Kick (skill): Mikey's signature finishing move: a devastating high roundhouse kick, usually delivered to the temple, that ends fights in a single blow.

Key Relationships

• Ken Ryuguji: Draken, his vice-leader, closest friend and moral anchor; the heart that keeps Mikey human.
• Takemichi Hanagaki: The strange, tearful delinquent whose refusal to give up reminds Mikey of his brother, and the one person still trying to save him.
• Hinata Tachibana: She once slapped Mikey to protect Takemichi, and her courage is part of why Mikey respects them both.
• Senju Kawaragi: Brahman's leader and a figure from the Sano family's past, whose history with Mikey's family runs deeper than the Three Titans war shows.
