Kayo is Satoru's classmate at elementary school in their Hokkaido town in 1988. At home she is neglected and abused by her mother, and she spends her evenings alone in the park rather than go back. In the original timeline she vanished in early March 1988 and was murdered, the first victim Satoru remembers from the kidnapping case that shadowed his childhood. When Revival returns him to 1988, Satoru makes saving Kayo his mission: inviting her in, giving her friends, gloves, a birthday, building, piece by piece, the childhood she was denied, while the date of her disappearance counts down.
