Dover Demon
From Dandadan
The Dover Demon is a supporting character in Dandadan, a shrimp-like alien boxer forced to fight for the Serpo to pay for his son's treatment, who becomes one of the group's kindest allies. He is voiced by Tomokazu Seki in Japanese and Brent Mukai in English.
About Dover Demon
The Dover Demon is a shrimp-like alien forced to fight for the Serpo to earn money for his sick son's treatment back home. What begins as an enemy becomes one of the story's kindest souls: a devoted father working a terrible job. Nicknamed Mr. Shrimp by the group, he and his son Chiquitita slowly become part of the Ayase family's strange world.
Appearance
The Dover Demon is a grey, shrimp-like alien with a long body, spindly limbs and a boxer's stance that looks ridiculous until he starts moving. Nicknamed Mr. Shrimp by the group, he seems like comic relief, a downtrodden alien labourer in over his head. When he fights seriously, his body swells with muscle into a genuine heavyweight form, and the joke lands very differently: this is a professional who was simply never fighting for himself.
Personality
Mr. Shrimp is humble, polite and self-sacrificing, a working father who apologises while he fights and means it. He has no pride about his job and total pride about his son. His gratitude to the Ayase family is boundless, and his gentle manner makes his serious fighting form all the more shocking to enemies who underestimate him.
Background & Story
The Dover Demon was hired muscle for the Serpo, sent to fight Momo and Okarun, not out of malice, but because he needed the money for his young son's medical treatment back home. Defeated and then understood, he became one of the story's kindest souls: a devoted father working a terrible job. He and his son Chiquitita slowly become part of the Ayase family's strange world, and Mr. Shrimp's fists are thereafter available to the teenagers who showed him mercy.
