Kinta Sakata

Kinta Sakata

From Dandadan

Quick Answer

Kinta Sakata is a supporting character in Dandadan, a classmate obsessed with robots, UFOs and being cool, whose imagination turns a giant Buddha statue into a fighting robot when a kaiju attacks. He is voiced by Daichi Fujiwara in Japanese and Bryce Papenbrook in English.

About Kinta Sakata

Kinta Sakata is a classmate obsessed with robots, UFOs and being cool, in that order, and with very little success at the last one. Classmates ignore him, but when a kaiju attacks the city, Kinta's imagination turns a giant Buddha statue into a fighting robot. Loud, delusional and secretly heroic, he finally gets his moment to shine.

Appearance

Kinta is a stocky classmate with a round face, small eyes behind a permanently self-satisfied expression, and an air of misplaced cool. He dresses and poses like a hero in his own private film, chin up, arms crossed, waiting for applause that does not come. In the cockpit of his great robot moment, though, the posing finally matches the reality, and Kinta looks exactly as heroic as he always insisted he was.

Personality

Kinta is loud, delusional and desperate to be admired, a boy whose confidence is inversely proportional to his social standing. But his obsession is real knowledge: nobody in the group knows mecha, kaiju or UFO lore like Kinta, and when the impossible happens, his imagination is suddenly the most practical weapon available. He is secretly heroic, and being needed is the making of him.

Background & Story

Kinta is Momo and Okarun's classmate, obsessed with robots, UFOs and being recognised as cool, and ignored by everyone for all three. When a kaiju attacks the city, Kinta's hour finally arrives: using alien nanoskin technology and his encyclopaedic mecha imagination, he shapes a giant Buddha statue into a fighting robot and pilots it in the city's defence. The class clown of the occult club becomes, for one enormous battle, exactly the hero he always claimed to be.

Powers & Abilities

  • Nanoskin Mecha Piloting: Kinta can shape alien nanoskin with his imagination and pilot the result, most famously a giant Buddha statue converted into a fighting robot.

Key Relationships

  • Momo Ayase: A classmate who mostly ignored him, until his robot saved the city and rewrote his reputation.
  • Ken Takakura: A fellow occult enthusiast; Kinta considers Okarun a rival in UFO expertise and coolness alike.
