Broly

About Broly

A Saiyan born with frightening power, exiled to the planet Vampa as a baby by a fearful King Vegeta. Raised in isolation by his father Paragus, Broly is gentle and soft-spoken until battle unlocks the Legendary Super Saiyan rage he cannot control. The 2018 film retold his story for the main timeline, turning him from a movie villain into a sympathetic character who later trains alongside Goku and Vegeta.

Appearance

Broly is a huge, heavily muscled man with wild black hair, a scar on his cheek, and sad, downcast eyes that sit oddly on the saga's most feared physique. He wears the pelt of his friend Ba, a green fur around his waist, tattered trousers and a shock collar in his early appearances. In his transformations his hair spikes gold, then green-gold in his full-power state, his bulk swelling until his armour cracks apart, the Legendary Super Saiyan of Saiyan myth, made visible.

Personality

Broly is the saga's gentlest monster: soft-spoken, kind to animals, loyal to the few friends he has, and terrified of the thing inside him. Raised by a father who treated him as a weapon of revenge, Broly never learned malice, his rage is not hatred but overload, a power his body and mind cannot steer. What saves him is what saved none of the old Brolys of the films: people. Cheelai and Lemo's friendship, and Goku's open hand after their battle, give the strongest Saiyan alive the first real choice of his life, and he chooses, quietly, to be a person.

Background & Story

Broly was born on Planet Vegeta with a power level of 10,000, a mutant strength that terrified King Vegeta, who ordered the infant exiled to the death-world Vampa rather than let him eclipse the royal line. His father Paragus followed, and raised him there for forty years among giant predators: part son, part weapon, aimed at a revenge on the Vegeta family. Rescued by Frieza's soldiers Cheelai and Lemo, Broly was brought to Earth as Frieza's catspaw against Goku and Vegeta, and his battle with them cracked continents and dimensions alike before a wish whisked him home to Vampa. There, with his first friends, the saga's most dangerous Saiyan began an ordinary life, and training, at last, on his own terms.
