Armin Arlert

About Armin Arlert

Armin Arlert is Eren and Mikasa's childhood friend, a small, timid boy with the sharpest mind in the Survey Corps. Bullied for dreaming about the world beyond the walls, he proves himself again and again as a strategist, reading enemies and finding plans nobody else can see. Armin's courage is quiet: he shakes with fear, thinks clearly anyway, and his friends trust his judgement completely.

Appearance

Armin is small and slight, with a round, youthful face, large blue eyes and blond hair worn in a neat bob that reaches his jaw. At 163 cm he is one of the shortest soldiers in his class and looks younger than his fifteen years. In his Survey Corps uniform he seems almost swallowed by the gear, which makes the steadiness in his expression during a crisis all the more striking. His look is the opposite of intimidating, enemies and allies alike underestimate him for it.

Personality

Armin is gentle, thoughtful and deeply curious, the boy who dreamed of oceans and deserts beyond the walls when everyone else feared them. He grew up bullied and convinced he was a burden who survived only because his friends protected him, and early battles feed that shame. But Armin's mind is extraordinary: he reads enemies, deduces hidden truths and builds plans under fire that generals would envy. His courage is real precisely because it costs him, he is often visibly shaking when he chooses to stand his ground anyway.

Background & Story

Armin grew up in Shiganshina with Eren and Mikasa, raised by his grandfather after his parents died attempting to leave the walls by balloon. His grandfather's banned book about the outside world, oceans of salt water, lands of ice and sand, gave both boys their dream of freedom. When Wall Maria fell, Armin escaped as a refugee, and his grandfather died in the doomed operation to retake farmland that followed. Armin enlisted with his friends despite having the weakest physical scores in the 104th, graduating on the strength of his academics. In battle after battle it is Armin who spots what no one else sees, and the Corps slowly learns to build its plans around the small cadet's judgement.
