Tomura Shigaraki

Tomura Shigaraki

From My Hero Academia

Quick Answer

Tomura Shigaraki is a main character in My Hero Academia, the leader of the League of Villains, whose Decay Quirk crumbles anything he touches with all five fingers. He is voiced by Koki Uchiyama in Japanese and Eric Vale in English.

About Tomura Shigaraki

Tomura Shigaraki leads the League of Villains. His Quirk, Decay, crumbles anything he touches with all five fingers, and his moods swing between childish gamer rage and cold planning. Raised in the shadows by the villain All For One, he wants to destroy the hero society that he believes failed him when he needed saving most.

Appearance

Shigaraki is a gaunt young man with pale, cracked skin, messy light-blue hair and red eyes usually half-hidden behind a severed grey hand that he wears over his face, one of several preserved hands attached to his body and costume. He scratches constantly at his neck when agitated, leaving raw marks. His villain outfit is plain and dark: a black coat and trousers with heavy shoes, the grasping hands of his past worn openly as armour. Everything about him looks neglected, itchy and on edge.

Personality

Shigaraki swings between childish and calculating: he talks about murder like a video game, throws tantrums when plans fail, then quietly rebuilds them better. Raised on neglect and then on a villain's coaching, he genuinely believes hero society is rotten, a world that walked past a suffering child because a hero would surely come. That grievance is real even when his conclusions are monstrous. Over time his petty hatred matures into a coherent destructive philosophy and a leader his followers, misfits like him, choose freely.

Background & Story

Born Tenko Shimura, he is the grandson of Nana Shimura, All Might's own master, a family connection kept hidden from him. As a small child he suffered in a household ruled by a father who hated heroes, and when his Quirk awakened in tragedy, no hero came to save the boy wandering the streets afterwards. The villain All For One did, taking him in, renaming him Tomura Shigaraki and carefully feeding his resentment into a weapon aimed at All Might and the society that produced him. As the story opens, Shigaraki leads the newly formed League of Villains in an attack on U.A.'s students, an unpolished, game-obsessed man-child whose growth into a true successor of evil becomes one of the story's central threads.

Powers & Abilities

  • Decay: Anything Shigaraki touches with all five fingers of one hand begins to crumble to dust, and the decay can spread from object to object and person to person.
  • League Leadership: Shigaraki grows from a tantrum-prone figurehead into the commander who unites Japan's villains under his own cause rather than his master's.
  • Enhanced Body: After undergoing months of body modification, Shigaraki gains superhuman strength, speed and regeneration even without using a Quirk.

Key Relationships

  • All Might: The Symbol of Peace he was raised to destroy, and, unknown to him at first, his own grandmother's successor and friend.
  • Izuku Midoriya: His counterpart: another boy shaped by All Might's legacy, standing on the opposite side of it.
  • Dabi: A League recruit whose own grudge against heroes makes him Shigaraki's most unpredictable early ally.
