Suika

Suika

From Dr. Stone

Quick Answer

Suika is a little girl of Ishigami Village in Dr. Stone who hides behind a watermelon-rind helmet because of her poor eyesight, and wants, more than anything, to be useful. Small enough to scout and slip anywhere, she becomes the Kingdom of Science's littlest agent. She is voiced by Karin Takahashi in Japanese and Sarah Wiedenheft in English.

About Suika

Suika is a little girl of Ishigami Village who hides behind a watermelon-rind helmet because of her terrible eyesight, and wants, more than anything, to be useful. Small enough to scout and slip anywhere, she becomes the Kingdom's littlest agent; the glasses Senku makes her are one of the series' most joyful moments. Suika's story is Dr. Stone in miniature: a child the world overlooked, given the power to help everyone.

Appearance

Suika is tiny at 119 cm, a small child with blonde hair usually hidden under her signature helmet, a hollowed watermelon rind with eye holes cut into it. When Senku grinds her a pair of glass lenses and sets them into the rind, her whole world sharpens at once. She wears simple village clothes, carries herself with earnest, scurrying energy, and speaks of herself in the third person. With her dog Chalk often at her side, Suika looks like the stone world's mascot, right up until she pulls off a mission no adult could have managed.

Personality

Suika's defining trait is that she wants to help. Feeling useless because of her blurry eyes, she volunteers for everything, and once science gives her glasses, her small size, patience and courage make her genuinely invaluable. She is sweet, determined and braver than she knows: scouting enemy territory, carrying messages, and enduring hardships alone that would break adults. Suika is Dr. Stone in miniature, a child the world overlooked, given by science the power to see clearly, who then uses that power entirely for other people. Her earnestness melts even the Kingdom's most hardened members.

Background & Story

Suika was born in Ishigami Village with severe short-sightedness, hiding her face behind a watermelon helmet and believing she could never be of use. When Senku's Kingdom needed eyes inside dangerous places, Suika's size made her the perfect scout, and Senku's gift of the first glasses in 3,700 years turned her secret shame into her strength. From then on she serves as the Kingdom's little agent: gathering information, helping in the lab, and stepping up in moments when everyone larger is captured, petrified or missing. Her story quietly carries the series' biggest idea, science exists so that nobody has to be useless.

Powers & Abilities

  • Scouting and Infiltration: Suika's small size lets her slip into places, hide and observe where no adult could go unnoticed, the Kingdom's most reliable little spy.
  • Watermelon Helmet and Glasses: Her rind helmet, fitted with Senku's ground-glass lenses, corrects her severe short-sightedness and doubles as her disguise and signature look.

Key Relationships

  • Senku Ishigami: The scientist who gave her glasses and her purpose, Suika would do anything for the Kingdom he built.
  • Kohaku: Her beloved big-sister figure in the village, whose courage Suika tries to copy.
  • Chrome: A kind older-brother figure who includes her in the science team's work.
