Kinro
From Dr. Stone
Kinro is the elder of Ishigami Village's two guard brothers in Dr. Stone, a spearman of absolute discipline whose creed is that rules are rules. What nobody knows is that his famous 'blurry sickness' is simple short-sightedness, which pride kept him from admitting until science gave him glasses mid-battle. He is voiced by Tomoaki Maeno in Japanese and Jessie James Grelle in English.
About Kinro
Kinro is the elder of Ishigami Village's two guard brothers, a spearman of absolute discipline whose creed is that rules are rules, even when a rule costs him a tournament, or nearly his life. What nobody knows is that his famous 'blurry sickness' is simple short-sightedness, which pride kept him from admitting until science gave him glasses mid-battle. Stern and honourable, Kinro is the village's law given a human face.
Appearance
Kinro is a tall, powerfully built 180 cm with dark hair, serious eyes and the upright bearing of a born guard. He wears the village guard's clothes and carries a spear, later tipped with gold, and stands his post at the village bridge like a statue that occasionally speaks. His face almost never relaxes; even gratitude comes out stiff. That stiffness is the character: Kinro's whole life is held in formation, which makes the rare moments he breaks ranks, for his brother, or for what is right, genuinely moving.
Personality
Kinro's creed is simple: rules are rules. He enforces the village's laws even when they cost him, refusing advantages in the village tournament that honour forbids, and holding his post whatever happens. Beneath the rigidity is pride of a specific kind: he hid his failing eyesight for years rather than admit weakness or accept special treatment. Senku's glasses, science given without judgement, crack that pride open. Kinro is honourable to his core, and his arc is learning that accepting help is not the same as breaking the rules he lives by.
Background & Story
Kinro guards Ishigami Village's entrance with his younger brother Ginro, in a village where the guards' duty is sacred. When Senku's people enter the village's Grand Bout tournament, held to choose a husband for Ruri and a new chief, Kinro fights as its most formidable honest competitor, even refusing a weapon repair mid-match on principle. His secret eyesight problem nearly costs him everything until glasses, delivered in the middle of the tournament, let him fight at his true level for the first time. From then on Kinro serves the Kingdom of Science as one of its elite spearmen, its law, given a human face and clear eyes.
Powers & Abilities
- Spear Mastery: Kinro is one of the village's strongest fighters, a disciplined spearman whose form and reach anchor the Kingdom's front line.
- Guard's Discipline: His absolute reliability, he does not abandon a post, a rule or a teammate, makes him the Kingdom's most trusted defensive fighter.
Key Relationships
- Ginro: His younger brother and fellow guard, Kinro's exasperation with Ginro's laziness sits on top of fierce brotherly protection.
- Senku Ishigami: The outsider whose glasses let Kinro see, and whose rule-breaking Kingdom Kinro chose to serve anyway.
- Kohaku: A fellow top fighter of the village; the two share the burden of its defence.
