Norn Greyrat
Norn Greyrat is a supporting character in Mushoku Tensei, Rudeus's younger sister, an earnest, ordinary girl growing up in the shadow of a genius brother and a brilliant half-sister. She is voiced by Saya Aizawa in Japanese.
About Norn Greyrat
Norn is Rudeus's younger sister, an earnest, ordinary girl growing up in the shadow of a genius brother and a brilliant half-sister. She struggles with resentment, faith and finding her own place at Ranoa Magic University. Her ordinariness is the point: Norn shows what this world looks like to someone without gifts, and her growth is quietly moving.
Appearance
Norn is a girl with blonde hair inherited from her mother Zenith and serious, often troubled eyes. At Ranoa Magic University she wears the student uniform and carries herself with the stiff determination of someone working twice as hard as the talented people around her. Nothing about Norn sparkles at first glance, which is rather the point of her character, and her charm.
Personality
Norn is earnest, stubborn and quietly resentful in ways the story treats with unusual respect. She is an ordinary person in a family of prodigies: her brother is a legend, her half-sister a genius, and Norn's talents are effort and honesty. Her resentment of Rudeus, fed by a childhood separation and a frightening first impression, is one of the series' most human conflicts, and her growth into her own place, through faith, study and sheer persistence, is quietly moving.
Background & Story
Norn is the daughter of Paul and Zenith Greyrat, born in Buena Village shortly before the Teleport Incident scattered the family. Rescued and raised through the search years largely by Paul and Lilia, she grows up with a complicated image of the famous brother she barely knows. Enrolling at Ranoa Magic University puts Norn in the same halls as Rudeus at last, and forces both siblings to build, awkwardly and honestly, the relationship the Incident stole from them.
Powers & Abilities
- Diligent study: Norn has no prodigy gifts; her progress in magic and academics comes from sustained, ordinary effort.
- Milis faith: Her devotion to the Milis religion, inherited from her mother's family, gives her community and direction.
Key Relationships
- Rudeus Greyrat: Her older brother, a legend she has to learn to see as a person, and who must learn to see her.
- Aisha Greyrat: Her half-sister and childhood companion, whose genius is the mirror Norn measures herself against.
