About Joker
Joker is a masked anti-hero who leaves riddles, bombs and unwelcome truths wherever he goes. He witnessed the fire that destroyed Shinra's family and lost an eye to the Temple's shadows; he has fought the empire's lies ever since, by methods Company 8 cannot approve of. Joker's game is information: he knows what the Temple hides and what Shinra is, and whether he is ally or enemy depends on which truth he is telling.
Appearance
Joker is a tall man of 183 cm dressed in a dark suit and fedora like an old-fashioned stage magician, with a bandage over one eye and a cigarette or a playing card never far from his fingers. His grin is knowing, and more than a little unpleasant. Everything about him is a performance designed to make the powerful uncomfortable, the costume of a man who decided long ago that the truth needs a showman.
Personality
Joker is playful, cryptic and utterly serious underneath. He treats the Empire's lies as a game he intends to win by exposure, dealing out facts like cards, one at a time, to the people who can use them. He is not kind and not safe, but his cruelty is aimed exclusively upward, at the Temple and the institutions that burned his life down. His moral compass works; it just points through smoke.
Background & Story
Joker was raised inside the Holy Sol Temple's shadow world, trained as an assassin in its hidden ranks, where he lost an eye and learned exactly what the Empire's faith is built on. He escaped that life with one possession: knowledge. He witnessed the night of the Kusakabe fire and knows what truly happened to Shinra's family, and he has fought the Temple's lies ever since by methods Company 8 cannot approve of. Whether he appears as ally or enemy depends on which truth he is currently telling, and to whom.
