Yukari

About Yukari

Yukari is a courtesan at the Isekichi house, part of the pleasure-quarter world that Satoko encounters after her life is turned upside down by kidnapping, assassins and a marriage bargain. Voiced by Kanon Amane, Yukari helps bring that world to life, a place with its own rules, kindnesses and dangers, where women with few choices look out for each other in ways the noble houses of the Kirigayas never did for Satoko.

Appearance

Yukari dresses and presents herself as a working courtesan of the Isekichi house, professional and composed in company. Like the other women of her house, she gives little away to strangers. What warmth she has is saved for her own.

Personality

Yukari is part of the sisterhood of the pleasure quarters, women who survive a hard trade by watching each other's backs. The noble houses of families like the Kirigayas never looked out for Satoko the way these women look out for their own, and Yukari's presence in the story underlines that contrast without anyone needing to say it out loud.

Background & Story

Yukari works at the Isekichi house, one of the establishments of the pleasure-quarter world that opens up to Satoko after the kidnapping and her bargain with Shinpei Goto. For a count's daughter raised behind walls, that world is a shock: women sold into service, strict house rules, and a rough mutual loyalty underneath it all. Yukari is one of the faces of that world, part of the community that receives Satoko when her own family's world has finished with her.

Key Relationships

• Aoi: A fellow courtesan and Satoko's mentor; the two women belong to the same pleasure-quarter world.
• Satoko Kirigaya: The noblewoman who lands in Yukari's world after the kidnapping, and finds more loyalty there than she ever got at home.
