Yuji Itadori

About Yuji Itadori

Yuji Itadori is a kind-hearted high schooler with freakish natural strength who swallows a cursed finger to save his friends and becomes the host of Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses. Sentenced to death by the jujutsu world, he trains at Tokyo Jujutsu High to find the remaining fingers and earn a death surrounded by people he has helped.

Appearance

Yuji is a sturdy, athletic teenager of average height with messy light-brown hair that has a pink tint, usually worn in soft spikes. He has warm brown eyes and a small scar that appears across his face as the story goes on. At school he wears the dark Tokyo Jujutsu High uniform, often with a red hood pulled up underneath, plus bright sneakers that suit his restless energy. When Sukuna takes over his body, sharp markings spread across Yuji's face and a second pair of eyes can open beneath his own, a clear warning that someone else is driving.

Personality

Yuji is warm, goofy and deeply kind, the sort of person who makes friends in minutes and risks his life for strangers without thinking twice. His grandfather's dying wish, that he help people and die surrounded by others, guides almost everything he does. He is not fearless: he admits he is scared of dying and hates the thought of taking a life, which makes his courage feel earned rather than automatic. He jokes constantly, eats enormously and cries openly, but in a fight he is stubborn to the core, getting back up again and again for the people beside him.

Background & Story

Yuji grew up in Sendai, raised by his grandfather Wasuke after losing his parents young. He was an ordinary student with unordinary strength, able to throw a shot put like a cannon, who spent his days in the school's Occult Research Club. Everything changed the night a cursed object, one of Ryomen Sukuna's twenty fingers, drew deadly curses to his school. To save his friends and the young sorcerer Megumi Fushiguro, Yuji swallowed the finger and became Sukuna's vessel. The jujutsu world sentenced him to death, but Gojo won him a stay of execution: Yuji would find and consume all twenty fingers first, so Sukuna could be destroyed with him. Enrolled at Tokyo Jujutsu High, the boy who wanted a proper death began learning what it means to live as a sorcerer.

Powers & Abilities

• Superhuman strength and speed: Even before learning sorcery, Yuji could shatter walls, outrun cars and throw with inhuman power, far beyond any normal teenager.
• Sukuna's vessel: Yuji's body hosts Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, who can take control briefly and lends his vessel unnatural toughness and healing.
• Divergent Fist: Yuji's blows land twice, his fist hits first, then his cursed energy crashes in a split second later for a second, delayed impact.
• Black Flash: A rare strike where cursed energy flashes black within a trillionth of a second of impact, multiplying the blow's power enormously.
• Martial arts and cursed-energy control: Trained at Jujutsu High, Yuji channels cursed energy through fast, close-range brawling built on his natural athleticism.

Key Relationships

• Ryomen Sukuna: The King of Curses living inside Yuji's body, a cruel tenant who mocks Yuji and waits for any chance to seize control.
• Satoru Gojo: His teacher, who saved him from immediate execution and trains him to survive the death sentence hanging over him.
• Megumi Fushiguro: The classmate Yuji saved on his first night as a sorcerer, now his closest ally and the calm to Yuji's impulse.
• Nobara Kugisaki: His other first-year classmate, loud, proud and instantly on Yuji's wavelength; the trio's heart.
• Kento Nanami: The grade 1 sorcerer Yuji looks up to as the first true adult in the jujutsu world, and a mentor in the field.
