Appearance

Maki is a tall, athletic young woman with long dark-green hair usually tied in a ponytail and sharp golden-brown eyes behind glasses, special glasses that let her see curses despite her lack of cursed energy. She wears the Tokyo Jujutsu High uniform with the easy confidence of someone always ready to train, and she is rarely seen without a weapon: a long polearm, a sword, or whatever cursed tool the mission needs. Her posture and stride are pure athlete. Nothing about her suggests the 'failure' her clan calls her, which is exactly the point she intends to make.

Personality

Maki is blunt, proud and relentlessly driven. The Zenin clan treated her as worthless for being born without cursed energy, and she turned that contempt into fuel: she will become a top sorcerer in their faces and take the clan's leadership as an insult made real. She is a demanding training partner and a harsher judge of herself than of anyone else, but she is not cold, she looks out for her juniors, respects effort wherever she finds it, and softens visibly around her classmates. With Yuta especially, her teasing carries a trust she gives almost no one. Maki's anger is real, but it is aimed, disciplined and entirely hers.

Maki was born into the Zenin clan, one of the three great sorcerer families, as a twin, and in the jujutsu world twins are seen as a bad omen, splitting power between them. Maki received almost no cursed energy, though a heavenly restriction gave her extraordinary physical gifts instead. The clan blocked her promotion, mocked her dream and treated her as a servant in her own home. So she walked out, enrolled at Tokyo Jujutsu High, and made her terms clear: she would return one day as a sorcerer too great to ignore and take the clan over. At school she found what her family never gave her, classmates who judge her by what she can do, which, with a cursed tool in her hands, is a very great deal.
