About Kento Nanami
Kento Nanami is a grade 1 sorcerer who quit jujutsu work for an office job, then came back because the work, however hated, mattered. His Ratio Technique finds the weak point of anything he strikes, and he treats sorcery like a job: strict hours, no wasted effort. Yuji respects him as the first real adult in this world.
Appearance
Nanami is a tall, broad-shouldered man with neatly combed blond hair and a permanently tired, businesslike air. He dresses like he never left the office: a tan suit, a spotted tie, a dress shirt, and round sunglasses-style goggles that protect his eyes in battle. His weapon is just as practical, a blunt, short blade wrapped in cloth, more tool than sword. Everything about Nanami is squared away and deliberate, from his haircut to his schedule, which makes the rare moments when he loosens his tie and rolls up his sleeves a warning in themselves: overtime has begun.
Personality
Nanami is dry, blunt and exhausted by nonsense, especially Gojo's. He treats sorcery as work, with hours, rules and a hard line between his job and his life, and he is openly cynical about the jujutsu world's habit of chewing up the young. Yet he came back to that world after tasting a normal life, because helping people turned out to matter more than comfort. With Yuji he becomes something rare in the series: a dependable adult, honest about danger, fair with praise and clear that a child's job is not to carry an adult's burdens. His decency is quiet, but everyone who works with him feels it.
Background & Story
Nanami was a Tokyo Jujutsu High student one year below Gojo and Geto, and he survived the era that broke so many of his generation. Disillusioned after losing friends, he quit sorcery entirely and became a salaryman at a securities firm, working himself numb for money that helped no one. The turning point was small: a bakery clerk he helped with a minor curse thanked him with real gratitude, and Nanami realised he missed being needed. He returned to the jujutsu world on his own strict terms, work hours, no pointless heroics, and rose to grade 1. When Gojo needs a trustworthy adult to guide Yuji Itadori in the field, Nanami is the first name on the list.
Powers & Abilities
- Ratio Technique: Nanami divides his target into ten parts and forces a weak point at the 7:3 ratio, a strike there lands with devastating critical force.
- Collapse: An extension of the Ratio Technique applied to the surroundings, turning walls and ground into weak points that crumble onto the enemy.
- Blunt sword: He fights with a short, cloth-wrapped blunt blade, relying on the Ratio Technique's weak points rather than a cutting edge.
- Overtime: A binding vow with himself: Nanami limits his cursed energy during work hours, and in return it surges far beyond normal when he works past them.
Key Relationships
- Yuji Itadori: The student Nanami mentors in the field, he respects Yuji's heart and insists on treating him as a child to protect, not a weapon.
- Satoru Gojo: His senior from school and the person Nanami trusts least with manners and most with everything else; Gojo relies on him completely.
- Mahito: The special grade curse whose cruelty to human souls Nanami finds unforgivable, their clash is deeply personal.
Quick Answers
What is Nanami's technique?
Nanami's Ratio Technique draws a line across his target and creates a weak point at the 7:3 ratio. Striking that point lands a critical hit, even against much stronger enemies.
Why did Nanami quit being a sorcerer?
Nanami left the jujutsu world after school, sick of its dangers and losses, and became a salaryman. He returned when he realised office work left him empty and that helping people as a sorcerer gave his life meaning.
Who voices Nanami?
Nanami is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda in Japanese and by David Vincent in the English dub.
What does Nanami mean by overtime?
Nanami made a vow with himself: he holds back his cursed energy during regular hours, so when he works overtime his power rises well beyond his usual limit.
