Rimuru is the cheerful slime hero of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Reborn after dying in modern Japan, he gains the Predator skill, which lets him absorb creatures and copy their powers. Instead of conquering, he builds Tempest, a nation where monsters and humans live together, solving problems with trade, food and friendship, and fighting only when his people are threatened.

Appearance

Rimuru's true form is a small, round, translucent blue slime with simple dot-like features, cute enough that strangers constantly underestimate him. After absorbing Shizue Izawa, he can take her human form: a slim, androgynous figure with long silver-blue hair and golden eyes, usually dressed in a black fur-trimmed outfit with a white scarf or mask. As Tempest's ruler he also appears in formal white and gold ceremonial dress. Whatever shape he wears, his relaxed posture and easy smile make him look more like a friendly traveller than one of the world's strongest beings.

Personality

Rimuru is cheerful, easygoing and stubbornly kind. Given overwhelming power, his first instinct is to build a town with good food, hot baths and festivals where monsters and humans can live side by side. He is a shameless fan of manga and fantasy stories, applies modern common sense to a medieval world, and prefers trade deals to battles. But the kindness has a hard edge: anyone who harms his people discovers that the friendly slime can be utterly ruthless, and he carries the guilt of every hard decision a ruler has to make.

Background & Story

Rimuru began life as Satoru Mikami, a 37-year-old Tokyo salaryman who was stabbed while protecting a junior colleague and died hearing a mysterious voice grant skills in answer to his last thoughts. He woke in a dark cave as a slime, blind until he taught himself to sense magic, and spent months eating ores and herbs. There he met Veldora, a mighty storm dragon sealed for 300 years, who became his first friend and gave him the name Rimuru Tempest. Freed from the cave, Rimuru began gathering the Jura Forest's monsters, goblins, wolves, dwarves and ogres, naming them, feeding them and building a village that grew into the nation of Tempest.

• Predator: His signature unique skill: he dissolves creatures and objects inside his slime body and copies their skills, forms and knowledge.
• Great Sage: A voice-like unique skill that analyses everything Rimuru absorbs, answers his questions and manages his ever-growing list of abilities.
• Slime body: His stretchy, regenerating slime form resists pain, poison, heat and cold, and can reshape itself into weapons, wings and tools.

  

• Mimicry: Using Predator's stored forms, Rimuru can transform into the creatures he has absorbed, from a small slime to a dragon-like silhouette.
• Black Lightning and elemental magic: Copied from absorbed monsters, Rimuru fights with lightning, water blades, fire and other elemental attacks far beyond a normal slime.
• Demon Lord evolution: After a human army attacks Tempest, Rimuru undergoes the Harvest Festival and awakens as a true Demon Lord, gaining vastly greater power.

• Veldora Tempest: The storm dragon sealed in the cave where Rimuru was reborn, his first friend in this world, who gave him the Tempest name.
