Riko Aida is Seirin's coach, a second-year student whose father runs a sports gym, and whose trained eye can read a player's physical condition and potential at a glance. Small, sharp-tongued and fearless, she designs Seirin's brutal training camps, cooks inedible 'recovery' meals and out-thinks adult coaches on the bench. Nobody in the gym wants victory more, or works harder for it, than Riko.

Appearance

Riko is a petite second-year with shoulder-length brown hair, often tied back when she is working, and determined brown eyes. She traded a playing career for a coach's clipboard early and dresses practically, school uniform in class, whistle and stopwatch at practice. On the bench she is a study in focus: leaning forward, reading the court, calling instructions with total confidence. Her smile is sweet; the training menus behind it are not, and every Seirin player has learned to fear her 'special' recovery cooking.

Personality

Riko is driven, observant and completely unafraid of anyone, players, rival coaches or her own team's complaints. She grew up around elite athletes in her father Kagetora's gym and absorbed how bodies work and how winners train. As a coach she is demanding but never careless: her harsh camps are calculated to build exactly the skills Seirin needs, and she tracks every player's condition like a scientist. Her one domestic blind spot is cooking, which she believes is excellent and her team believes is a hazard. Nobody at Seirin doubts that their coach wants victory as much as any player.

Background & Story

Riko became Seirin's coach when the club was founded, recruited by Kiyoshi and Hyuga, her friends from middle school, because of her rare ability: by looking at a player's body she can assess their physical stats, strengths and developing weaknesses, a skill learned from years in her father's sports gym. With a team of nobodies she built a conditioning programme tough enough to let Seirin run with Japan's powerhouse schools, and her scouting and substitutions repeatedly out-think veteran coaches. Her father Kagetora, a former national-team player, later helps train the team, but the bench at Seirin belongs to Riko, and the players' trust in her plans is total.
