Neia Baraja
From Overlord
Neia Baraja is a supporting character in Overlord, a young squire serving the Sacred Kingdom's paladins, an archer whose faith in Ainz's justice drives The Sacred Kingdom story. She is voiced by Yoshino Aoyama in Japanese.
About Neia Baraja
Neia is a young squire serving the Sacred Kingdom's paladins, an archer with her father's fierce glare and none of his respect from her commander. When her country falls to the demon emperor Jaldabaoth, she becomes Ainz's attendant, and starts preaching his justice to a broken nation. Her faith, sincere and terrifying, drives The Sacred Kingdom film.
Appearance
Neia is a young woman with dark hair and her father's famously fierce, glaring eyes, an intense stare that makes strangers assume she is angry even when she is simply listening. She wears a squire's gear and carries a bow, later adding equipment gifted by Ainz himself. Her severe expression and earnest, formal way of speaking make her look older and harder than the uncertain teenager she is at the story's start.
Personality
Neia is earnest, dutiful and quietly desperate to be worthy. Raised on her paladin father's ideals, she serves commanders who dismiss her, in a kingdom that reads her father's glare on her face as defiance. When her country falls and Ainz saves what the paladins could not, Neia's need for a justice that actually works finds its answer in the Sorcerer King, and her sincere, terrifying preaching of his gospel to a broken nation becomes a force neither side planned for.
Background & Story
Neia Baraja is the daughter of Pavel Baraja, the Sacred Kingdom's greatest archer, serving as a squire in its paladin order when the demon emperor Jaldabaoth's armies overrun her country. Assigned as attendant to the visiting Sorcerer King Ainz, she watches him do what her own kingdom's heroes could not, and begins preaching his justice to the survivors. Her story, told in the Sacred Kingdom arc and its film, is Overlord's clearest look at how faith in Ainz grows among ordinary people.
Powers & Abilities
- Master archery: Neia inherits her father's gift with the bow, fighting as a sharpshooter far beyond a normal squire's level.
- Runecraft equipment: Ainz gifts her powerful equipment, including a runecrafted bow, making her a symbol of his favour.
- Voice of the faithful: Her preaching spreads belief in the Sorcerer King through the Sacred Kingdom's survivors, influence no army could buy.
Key Relationships
- Ainz Ooal Gown: The king she attends and comes to worship as justice itself; her faith in him reshapes her nation's survivors.
