About Mash Burnedead
Mash Burnedead is the hero of Mashle: Magic and Muscles. Born without magic in a world where magic decides everything, he was raised in secret in the forest by his adoptive father. When the authorities find him, he is given a choice: enrol at Easton Magic Academy and become a Divine Visionary, the most honoured student in the land, or be hunted for the rest of his life. Mash answers every spell with the muscles he built through relentless daily training, plus an endless appetite for cream puffs.
Appearance
Mash is a sturdy, well built teenager with a neat black bowl cut and a calm, blank expression that barely changes, even in the middle of a fight. He wears the black robes of Easton Magic Academy over his uniform. The most important thing about his face is what is missing: it carries none of the marks that identify magic users in his world, which is exactly the secret he has to hide.
Personality
Mash is deadpan, honest and almost impossible to rattle. He misunderstands social cues, says exactly what he thinks, and treats mortal danger with the same flat calm as a trip to the bakery. Underneath the blank face he is deeply kind: his whole goal is a quiet life with his father, and he will walk through any wall, literal or otherwise, to protect the people he cares about. He also loves cream puffs beyond all reason.
Background & Story
Mash was born without magic and abandoned as a baby, then found and raised in secret by the man he calls his father, far from a society that treats the magicless as a threat to be removed. He spent his childhood in the forest, training his body every single day. A trip into town for cream puffs gave him away: the magic police traced him home, and the bargain he was offered was brutal. Enrol at Easton Magic Academy and become a Divine Visionary, a title too respected to touch, or be hunted forever. Mash chose the academy, and passed its entrance exam using nothing but strength.
Powers & Abilities
- Superhuman strength: Years of daily training have made Mash absurdly strong. He catches spells with his bare hands, lifts what grown wizards cannot move, and treats solid stone as a mild inconvenience.
- A body trained like a weapon: Mash's speed, reflexes and endurance are as freakish as his strength. He digs, swims, runs and climbs at speeds that look like magic to everyone watching, which is how he keeps his cover.
Key Relationships
- Finn Ames: His roommate at Easton and the first friend he makes there, a kind, nervous boy who is regularly terrified by what Mash does next.
- Lance Crown: The top scoring student in their year and Mash's first real rival at Easton, a serious gravity magic user who takes everything Mash does as a personal challenge.
- Lemon Irvine: A classmate who decided very early that she is going to marry Mash one day. Mash has not entirely kept up with this plan.
- Dot Barrett: A loud classmate in Mash's circle, all fire and shouting, whose explosions pair oddly well with Mash's silence.
