Magna Swing
From Black Clover
Magna Swing is a supporting character in Black Clover, a Black Bulls fire mage from a tiny village near Hage, a delinquent with a heart of gold who proves a commoner with average magic can stand beside prodigies through sheer work. He is voiced by Genki Muro in Japanese and Ian Sinclair in English.
About Magna Swing
Magna is a hot-headed Black Bulls fire mage from a small country village, proud of his delinquent style, his broom-like broomstick and his captain's respect. What he lacks in noble talent he repays with guts, creative fireball tricks and total loyalty. He looks up to Yami and Luck, and refuses to let commoner roots stop him keeping pace with anyone.
Appearance
Magna is a wiry young man with black hair swept into a pompadour-like style, sharp eyes and a delinquent's scowl that softens embarrassingly fast around friends. He wears sunglasses pushed up on his head, a leather jacket style outfit under his Black Bulls robe, and rides a beloved custom broom he calls Crazy Cyclone. In battle his hands are constantly lit with fireballs, his magic is not vast, so he has turned throwing, timing and trickery into an art form of its own.
Personality
Magna is loud, proud and touchy about respect, a small-town tough guy with a strict personal code: protect the weak, honour your seniors, and never mock a man's effort. He was Asta and Yuno's village senior before he was their colleague, and he treats being a Magic Knight from Rayaka village as a sacred trust. His secret is that he is not talented: his magic power is ordinary, and everything he has, he built with practice, guts and shameless tricks. That makes him the squad's everyman, the proof that the Black Bulls' creed works for normal people too.
Background & Story
Magna grew up in Rayaka, a poor village a short ride from Hage, terrorising the locals as a young delinquent until the village elder and the example of a passing Magic Knight straightened his aim: he would become a knight himself and protect places like his own. He passed the entrance exam on effort and nerve and joined the Black Bulls, where he became the squad's resident big brother, inducting Asta with a baptism of fireballs, charging into the Eye of the Midnight Sun's raids, and defending villages nobody else would bother with. When the Spade Kingdom war came, Magna's years of grinding produced the series' most satisfying upset: a commoner's secret technique, prepared for months, that let him trade blows evenly with a devil host.
Powers & Abilities
- Fire Magic: Magna throws and shapes fireballs with expert control, lacking raw power, he wins with volume, accuracy and invention.
- Exploding fireball techniques: Timed and scattering fireballs, including invisible delayed blasts he sets like traps mid-fight.
- Soul Chain Death Match: His secret technique, built on rune arrays: a chain links his soul to the enemy's and splits their combined magic power evenly between them, erasing a stronger foe's advantage.
Key Relationships
- Luck Voltia: His partner and constant sparring rival, the lightning maniac whose talent Magna answers with work.
- Asta: A junior from the village next door; Magna's rough welcome turned into genuine big-brother pride.
- Yami Sukehiro: The captain he idolises, Yami's delinquent-to-captain story is the template Magna lives by.
