About Luka Urushibara
Luka Urushibara is the soft-spoken heir of the Yanagibayashi Shrine, whose delicate features and shrine-maiden duties make everyone assume he is a girl, a misunderstanding he is too shy to correct, and which a single D-Mail turns into a changed world line. Luka's quiet crush on Okabe and willingness to sacrifice his own happiness for Mayuri's survival make his arc one of the story's most bittersweet.
Appearance
Luka is a slight, delicate-featured teenager with long dark hair, most often seen in shrine maiden dress at Yanagibayashi Shrine or in modest casual clothes. His posture is shy and formal, hands folded, eyes usually lowered.
Personality
Luka is polite, earnest and painfully shy about correcting people's assumptions. He trains with a wooden sword as an offering of discipline, admires Okabe's confidence and struggles honestly with what he wishes his life could be.
Background & Story
Luka serves at his family's shrine near the lab and becomes Lab Member 006 after asking Okabe for training in confidence and swordsmanship. The lab's experiments with messages to the past touch Luka's life in a personal way, a wish about his own identity becomes one of the changes Okabe must think hardest about. Luka's arc is one of the story's gentlest: about being seen as oneself, and what that is worth. (Premise only.)
Key Relationships
- Rintaro Okabe: The lab founder Luka admires and trains under, and the person he trusts with his wish.
- Mayuri Shiina: A kind friend who sews with Luka and treats him exactly as he is.
