Itaru 'Daru' Hashida is the Future Gadget Lab's super hacker, a heavyset otaku whose skills with code, electronics and online culture make the PhoneWave and the time leap machine possible. Perpetually chasing 2D girls while complaining about 3D ones, he is far more perceptive than he acts, and his future daughter, Suzuha, arrives in 2010 carrying the weight of what his research will one day build.

Daru is a heavyset 19-year-old with short dark hair, glasses and a cap, usually in a casual shirt at the lab's computer. He is almost always at a keyboard, surrounded by screens, figures and snacks, and his posture suggests he has not stood up in some time.
Personality
Daru is an unapologetic otaku, devoted to games, anime and Faris, whose speech is full of internet slang. He is also the lab's most reliable adult in practice: perceptive, loyal and brilliant at his work, noticing technical and human details that Okabe's drama misses. His complaints are constant and his follow-through is total.
Background & Story
Daru met Okabe at school and became Lab Member 003, the Future Gadget Laboratory's engineer and hacker. The lab's phone-controlled microwave experiment only becomes a message-to-the-past machine because Daru can build, code and break into systems the others cannot name. When the experiments attract serious attention, Daru's skills, from hacking secure networks to rebuilding old hardware, become the lab's lifeline. He grumbles through all of it, usually while saving the day from his chair. (Premise only.)
