Hiyori Iki is a kind, martial-arts-loving schoolgirl who pushes a stranger out of a bus's path, and wakes up changed. Since that day her soul slips out of her body when she sleeps or daydreams, letting her see gods and spirits. Hiyori is a teenage girl with long brown hair and pink-brown eyes, usually in her school uniform or practical casual clothes. In her spirit form she looks the same but with a long, cord-like tail connecting her to her sleeping body, the sign of a half-phantom, caught between the human world and the Far Shore.

Hiyori is kind, brave and sensible, the normal person in a world of gods, and often the bravest one in the room. She loves wrestling, worries about her condition quietly and refuses to be only a bystander: she feeds stray gods, befriends teenage weapons and keeps showing up for people the heavens ignore. Her belief is Yato's lifeline, and she knows it, which makes her determined to remember him no matter what.
Background & Story
Hiyori is the daughter of a well-off family, a good student whose one rebellion is a secret love of martial arts. On an ordinary day she pushes a tracksuit-wearing stranger out of a bus's path; he turns out to be the god Yato, and the accident leaves her a half-phantom, her soul slips free whenever she sleeps or daydreams, letting her see gods, spirits and phantoms. She hires Yato, for five yen, to fix her. While he avoids finishing the job, Hiyori is drawn into the world of gods and shinki, becoming the human anchor for Yato and Yukine and learning how much a god depends on being remembered by even one person.
