Ebisu

About Ebisu

Ebisu is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune, the god of commerce and fishing, and a quiet, driven god who studies phantoms and seeks a way to control them, whatever the cost. Reborn again and again, he treats his own life as disposable in pursuit of a better world. His dangerous research drives the Yomi arc and forces heaven, Yato and Bishamon into collision.

Appearance

Ebisu is a composed, businesslike god in a neat suit, with calm features and the air of a wealthy executive, fitting for a god of commerce. Nothing about him suggests how many times he has died and been reborn.

Personality

Ebisu is quiet, driven and strangely innocent, a god who sincerely wants to make the world better and pursues it with methods heaven calls crimes. Having reincarnated so often, he holds his own life cheap, which frightens gods who have only one.

Background & Story

Ebisu is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune, running vast businesses in the human world while secretly researching phantoms, buying, naming and experimenting with them in search of control over the Far Shore's monsters. Heaven watches him; Yato is drawn into his work through jobs and through the conjurer mystery surrounding phantom masks. Ebisu's story asks the series' hardest question from a new angle: how much wrong may a god do for a genuinely good end?

Key Relationships

• Yato: The stray god drawn into Ebisu's phantom research and its consequences.
• Bishamon: A fellow God of Fortune, pulled into collision with him by heaven's politics.
