Gyro Zeppeli
Gyro Zeppeli is the co-lead of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run, a Neapolitan executioner and master of the Spin who fights with a pair of steel balls. He races to win mercy for a condemned boy and becomes Johnny Joestar's teacher. He is voiced by Yohei Azakami in Japanese and Kaiji Tang in English.
About Gyro Zeppeli
Gyro Zeppeli is a Neapolitan executioner turned racer, heir to his family's sacred Spin technique, which he wields through a pair of steel balls. Loud, funny and theatrical, he enters the Steel Ball Run with a private mission of mercy. As Johnny's reluctant teacher and partner, Gyro becomes the heart of the race, and of JoJo's most loved partnership.
Appearance
Gyro is a tall, athletic man with long dark hair worn under a wide-brimmed hat fitted with goggles, and a row of square patches of facial hair along his jaw. His most famous feature is his grin: his teeth are metal grills engraved with the words 'GO! GO! ZEPPELI'. He dresses like a theatrical cowboy, fitted riding clothes, a belt holding his two steel balls, and an air of total confidence even in the desert.
Personality
Gyro is loud, funny and theatrical, cracking jokes and singing about cheese in the middle of mortal danger. He teases Johnny relentlessly and hides his serious side under showmanship. But the act covers a principled man: trained from childhood in an executioner's trade he quietly questions, Gyro risks everything on a stranger's mercy case, and his lessons to Johnny, part technique, part philosophy, are delivered with the certainty of a man who believes rotation, like life, rewards those who commit fully.
Background & Story
Born Julius Caesar Zeppeli in the Kingdom of Naples, Gyro was raised by his father Gregorio into the family trade: royal executioners who were also doctors, masters of the Spin, a rotational art practised with steel balls that can manipulate the human body. As an executioner, Gyro was ordered to carry out the sentence on Marco, a young boy he believed innocent. The king offered a chance: amnesty could follow if Gyro won glory in America's great new race. Gyro crossed the Atlantic, entered the Steel Ball Run on his horse Valkyrie, and, at the starting town, met a crippled ex-jockey whose legs moved at the touch of his spinning ball.
Powers & Abilities
- The Spin: Gyro's family art of perfect rotation, channelled through thrown steel balls; a true Spin can flex muscles, redirect force and even make a paralysed man's legs move.

The Spin, Gyro's steel ball at full rotation, pulling the water around it into a vortex. Still from the official Steel Ball Run opening. - Steel Balls: Gyro's signature weapons: a pair of patterned green steel spheres, thrown with the Spin to strike, grip, deflect and return like boomerangs of iron.

Gyro's steel ball, the patterned green sphere through which he channels the Spin. Still from the official Steel Ball Run opening. - Ball Breaker: The Stand that emerges when Gyro's steel ball achieves the infinite rotation of the Golden Spin; its energy ages and breaks down whatever it passes through.
Key Relationships
- Johnny Joestar: His student, race partner and best friend; Gyro teaches Johnny the Spin lesson by lesson, and Johnny's stubbornness earns his respect.
- Diego Brando: A rival racer whose genius Gyro acknowledges and whose hunger he distrusts; their duels are among the race's fiercest.
- Lucy Steel: The promoter's young wife, whose courage in spying on the President makes her an ally Gyro and Johnny must protect.
- Funny Valentine: The President behind the race's hidden purpose, the man standing between Gyro and the amnesty he crossed an ocean to win.
