Child Emperor
From One Punch Man
Child Emperor is a supporting character in One Punch Man, a ten-year-old S-Class hero whose backpack unfolds into an arsenal of gadgets and robots of his own design, and who plans battles like a general. He is voiced by Minami Takayama in Japanese and Sara Cravens in English.
About Child Emperor
Child Emperor is a ten-year-old S-Class hero whose backpack unfolds into an arsenal of gadgets, robots and chemical weapons of his own design. The youngest hero in the Association, he plans battles like a general and sulks like a schoolboy when adults ignore him. His intelligence makes him the heroes' strategist in the Monster Association raid, and his trust in the Association is tested hardest there.
Appearance
Child Emperor is a small ten-year-old boy with neat brown hair and a schoolboy's uniform, permanently carrying a bulging randoseru backpack and usually a lollipop or a handheld console. He looks like a lost elementary student in every hero meeting, which is precisely the gag, until his backpack begins unfolding into missile pods, robot arms and chemical sprayers and the room remembers he outranks almost everyone in it.
Personality
Child Emperor is brilliant, organised and exasperated, a project manager trapped in a child's body and a workplace of showboating adults. He plans three contingencies deep, sulks openly when his plans are ignored, and measures adults by whether they read his reports. Beneath the impatience he is sincerely devoted to protecting people, and his disillusionment with the Association's politics is one of the war arc's most adult storylines, carried by its youngest hero.
Background & Story
A genius inventor, Child Emperor built his own hero career: the backpack arsenal, the robot dog unit Underdog Man, sensor networks and battlefield analysis tools are all his designs. The Hero Association leans on him as its strategist, he coordinates S-Class deployments, runs the planning for the Monster Association raid, and builds countermeasures for threats the adult heroes barely understand. His frustration runs the other way: the Association treats his warnings as a child's opinions, and the discovery that its leadership may not deserve his trust hits him harder than any monster.
Powers & Abilities
- Backpack Arsenal: His backpack unfolds into an arsenal of his own design, missiles, blades, robot arms, shields and chemical weapons, reconfigured for each opponent.
- Genius Invention and Strategy: Child Emperor designs robots, sensors and countermeasures and plans operations for the whole S-Class; his analysis is a weapon in itself.
Key Relationships
- Metal Knight: The other great inventor of the S-Class, Child Emperor admires Bofoi's technology and is increasingly disturbed by what the older scientist is willing to do with it.
- Zombieman: A fellow S-Class hero he works with closely during the war; the detective-like immortal is one of the adults who actually listens to him.
- Saitama: A hero Child Emperor underestimates, like everyone does, the strategist's data has no category for Saitama at all.
