Carla

About Carla

A white Exceed and Wendy's closest companion, hatched from the same mission that sent Happy to Earth Land. Carla is proper, sharp-tongued and protective, and she is gifted, or cursed, with glimpses of the future that she cannot always interpret in time. Beneath her strict manner she cares deeply for Wendy and the guild, and her precognition becomes vital as the war with Alvarez approaches.

Appearance

Carla is a small white cat with pink ears, brown eyes and a long tail tied with a pink bow. She dresses more formally than any other Exceed: a neat orange-and-red top, a skirt, and an air of permanent disapproval that functions as an accessory. Her Fairy Tail mark is on her back. In her rare human form, a transformation she learns later, she appears as a young girl with white hair and cat ears, in a school-style uniform.

Personality

Carla takes her job seriously, and her job, as she defines it, is Wendy. Everything else is secondary. Other cats get to nap and chase fish; Carla scolds, supervises, doubts strangers on principle and treats Happy's devotion as a scheduling inconvenience. It looks like pure governess severity until you understand what's under it. Her prophetic visions arrive uninvited and half-finished, flashes of disasters she can't explain and can't stop, and she has carried that weight alone since she was small. The guild grows on her anyway. Even Happy grows on her, which she would deny at length, in a tone that fools nobody.

Background & Story

Carla was born in Edolas to Queen Shagotte, gifted, or burdened, with her mother's power of precognition. As an egg she was among the hundred Exceed sent to Earth Land, and she hatched beside Wendy Marvell in the Cait Shelter guild. Her visions began young and fragmented: flashes of disasters she could not explain, including a terrible one of her homeland's fall. She kept them secret, grew up Wendy's guard and guide, and carried her duties into Fairy Tail when they joined. In Edolas the truth of her birth and her visions finally surfaced, and Carla chose, against prophecy and queen alike, to stand with Wendy and the Exceeds' right to live freely.

Powers & Abilities

• Aera: The Exceed wing magic, Carla flies with white wings like Happy's, carrying Wendy when needed.
• Precognition: Inherited from her mother, the Exceed queen: uncontrolled visions of the future arrive in fragments, warning her of dangers she may not understand until they arrive.
• Transformation: Later in the story she learns to take a human form, a young girl's shape she uses when hands are more useful than paws.

Key Relationships

• Wendy Marvell: Her partner and the centre of her world, Carla exists, by her own account, to protect Wendy.
• Happy: The blue Exceed whose devotion she rebuffs for years, while quietly coming to respect his courage.
