Peeps

About Peeps

Peeps is the pet Java sparrow Sasaki bought for company, and secretly Piercarlo, the Sage of the Stars, a legendary magician reincarnated from another world into a tiny bird's body. Proud, wise and fond of good food, he teaches Sasaki magic and opens the door between worlds for him. Despite his grand titles, he has settled happily into pet life, as long as the meals and respect keep coming.

Appearance

Peeps is a small silver-grey Java sparrow with a distinctive star marking on his chest, an unremarkable pet-shop bird to anyone who does not know better. His manner gives him away: he perches like a king holding court, and his voice, when he chooses to use it, carries the authority of a legendary sage several centuries past caring about appearances.

Personality

Peeps is proud, wise and thoroughly enjoying his retirement. He expects good food and proper respect, delivers both magical tuition and cutting commentary, and treats Sasaki's extraordinary double life as a pleasant diversion from an otherwise quiet pet existence. For all his vanity, he is a genuinely great magician and a loyal partner, the tiny bird is the most powerful person in almost every room he enters.

Background & Story

Piercarlo, called the Sage of the Stars, was one of the greatest magicians of his world before his death and reincarnation, as a Java sparrow in a modern Japanese pet shop. Bought by the salaryman Sasaki, he revealed himself, granted his new owner magic and world-travel, and settled into pet life with enthusiasm. He teaches Sasaki spell by spell, advises him through kingdom politics and bureau missions alike, and guards the secret of their arrangement from psychics, magical girls and government agents who would all want a talking sage of their own.

Powers & Abilities

• Sage magic: As the reincarnated Sage of the Stars, Peeps commands magic far beyond what he has taught Sasaki, and instructs him spell by spell as situations demand.
• World travel: Peeps' power carries Sasaki, and goods, and occasionally stowaways, between modern Japan and the other world.

Key Relationships

• Sasaki: His owner, student and business partner, the tired salaryman whose quiet life Peeps cheerfully destroyed and rebuilt.
• Shizuka Futari: A dangerous contact whose dealings Peeps advises Sasaki to approach with caution.
• Elsa: The young knight of the Herz Kingdom whose safety Peeps has personally stepped in to protect.
