Akutsu

About Akutsu

Akutsu is Sasaki's section chief at the Cabinet Office's paranormal bureau, the secret government office that monitors and recruits people with psychic powers. Calm, shrewd and impossible to fluster, he manages agents like Sasaki and Hoshizaki while answering to people even higher up. He suspects Sasaki is hiding something about his abilities, and he is right, but for now the results Sasaki delivers are good enough to keep the questions polite.

Appearance

Akutsu is a composed adult man in the neat dress of a senior government official, with a calm, unreadable expression that gives subordinates nothing to work with. Everything about him is controlled, voice, posture, paperwork, the look of a man who manages secrets for a living.

Personality

Akutsu is shrewd, patient and quietly funny at his subordinates' expense. He manages agents like Sasaki and Hoshizaki while answering to people even higher up, and he weighs results against questions with a bureaucrat's precision. He suspects Sasaki's file does not add up; for now, the results Sasaki delivers are good enough to keep the questions polite.

Background & Story

Akutsu runs a section of the Cabinet Office's Paranormal Phenomena Countermeasure Bureau, the hidden office that finds, recruits and polices psychics in modern Japan. He approved Sasaki's recruitment after Hoshizaki's report and assigns the pair their cases, rogue psychics, magical girl incidents and worse. His management style is to watch, wait and let useful people hang themselves or prove themselves; Sasaki, so far, keeps proving himself just enough.

Key Relationships

• Sasaki: His agent, productive, evasive, and the file Akutsu most enjoys not quite believing.
• Hoshizaki: His officer, whose scouting brought Sasaki into the bureau.
