Laufen

About Laufen

Laufen is a young mage in Denken's team during the first-class exam, raised by the old mage after her village was lost. Her specialty is high-speed movement magic that makes her almost impossible to catch. Sweet, trusting and devoted to Denken, she shows how the exam's rival teams are held together by their own bonds and promises.

Appearance

Laufen is a young woman with light hair worn in a practical style and a sweet, open expression. She looks like the least threatening person in the first-class exam, small, friendly and quick to smile. In motion she is anything but harmless: her high-speed movement magic turns her into a blur that crosses a battlefield before most mages can finish a spell.

Personality

Laufen is gentle, trusting and devoted. She is not naive, she has seen her home destroyed, but she has chosen gratitude over bitterness, anchoring herself to the man who saved her. In a fight she is brave and obedient to the plan; out of one, she is the warm heart of Denken's otherwise calculating team.

Background & Story

Laufen lost her village and was taken in by the imperial mage Denken, who raised and trained her. She enters the first-class exam as part of his team, and her speed magic makes her their scout, messenger and ambush piece. Her trust in Denken is absolute, she believes in following his judgement the way she once followed him out of ruin, and the exam shows how the rival teams, like Frieren's party, are held together by their own promises.

Powers & Abilities

• Jilwer, High-Speed Movement: Laufen's movement magic lets her travel at extreme speed, making her almost impossible to catch or target.

Key Relationships

• Denken: The mage who took her in and raised her; her loyalty to him is the centre of her exam campaign.
