Himmel
Himmel is a main character in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, the hero who led the party that defeated the Demon King. Handsome, kind and cheerfully vain, his death at seventy-six is what finally teaches Frieren how precious a short human life is. He is voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese and Clifford Chapin in English.
About Himmel
Himmel was the hero who led the party that defeated the Demon King: Frieren, Heiter and Eisen followed him for ten years. Handsome, kind and cheerfully vain, he filled the journey with statues, jokes and small kindnesses that people still remember decades later. His death is what finally teaches Frieren how precious a short human life can be.
Appearance
Himmel in his prime was a strikingly handsome young man with blue hair, gentle blue eyes and a warm, confident smile. He carried a hero's sword and wore a traveller's cloak over light armour, always somehow managing to look like the statues that would later be made of him. He struck poses, checked his reflection and adored his own image, but the kindness in his face was completely real. As an old man he shrank and whitened, yet kept the same twinkle; Frieren's last sight of him was a frail elder still delighted to see her.
Personality
Himmel was kind, brave and cheerfully vain, a hero who commissioned statues of himself in every town and never once walked past someone in trouble. His narcissism was a performance everyone saw through: what people remembered was that he helped, he listened and he made the journey fun. He understood his friends deeply, including the elf who barely seemed to notice him, and he filled ten years with small kindnesses designed to be remembered. Decades later, those memories are still guiding people, most of all Frieren.
Background & Story
Himmel grew up in an orphanage dreaming of becoming a hero, and as a young man he drew together the party that would save the world: Frieren the mage, Heiter the priest and Eisen the warrior. For ten years he led them across the continent, defeating the Demon King, and, just as importantly, helping every village, child and stranger along the way, leaving statues and stories behind him everywhere. When the quest ended he was twenty-six, and he lived quietly afterwards, growing old while Frieren wandered. He died at seventy-six, shortly after one last reunion to watch a meteor shower with his old friends. His funeral is where Frieren's story truly begins.
